El Fin del Mundo - Ushuaia

I had imagined "the end of the world" totally differently. Especially when an elderly english couple on the plane ridiculed me a little for not getting off in Punta Arenas and instead flying on to Ushuaia (WHAAAAAT the ..... are you going THERE for????) I wasn´t quite sure what to expect...and maybe because of that I was rather pleasantly surprised.

The flight into Ushuaia was definately one of the best flights ever. The weather was perfect and we spent 3 hours cruising high over the Andes. The view was spectacular; High mountains, glaciers, rugged peaks, perfectly shaped volcanoes and lots of lakes were below us. Then, desert! For hundreds of miles! (What a surpise I thought - hm...guess I hadn´t done my homework and knew nothing about Argentinas Pampa). After 3 wonderful hours the descent into Ushuaia blew my mind. I couldn´t get my greasy nose off the tiny window. (I was ready to smash the window so I could see more. Didn´t try though - guess I wouldn´t have succeeded anyway. Once at the airport I quickly met the guys that were left on the plane (were only 3 anyway). A canadian guy (Karl) and I shared a taxi and found ourselves a GREAT place to dump our bags; With the best views in the world (from my Bed, see pictures below).


Das Ende der Welt hatte ich mir wahrlich anders vorgestellt. Noch als ich im Flieger ziemlich bloede begelaechelt wurde von einem englischen (aelteren) Ehepaar, das in Punta Arenas ausstieg (es waren nur noch 3 Passagiere uebrig, die weiterflogen), befuerchtete ich das aller schlimmste ("WHAAAAAT the .... do you go to Ushuaia for???"). Aber, es sollte anders kommen...

Der Flug nach Ushuaia war einer meiner besten Fluege ueberhaupt. Das Wetter war perfekt (keine Wolke) und die Aussicht spektakulaer; Hohe Berge (sehr hohe sogar), Gletscher, felsige Bergskuppen, perfekt geformte Vulkane and viele Seen waren unter uns. Dann - Wueste! Fuer Hunderte von Meilen (Welch eine Ueberraschung dachte ich - hm...schaetze ich hatte meine Hausaufgaben nicht gemacht - ich hate ja keine Ahnung von Argentiniens Pampa). Nach 3 wunderschoenen Stunden Flug war ich von den Socken, als wir im Sinkflug der Stadt immer naeher kamen. Ich presste meine Nase gegen die Scheibe wie ein kleines Kind (ich war fast soweit, dass ich die Scheibe eingeschlagen haette, damit ich besser sehen kann). Einmal am Flughafen angekommen, lernte ich schnell die anderen Beiden kennen, die mit mir bis Ushuaia geflogen waren. Ein Kanadier (Karl) und ich teilten uns ein Taxi und fanden eine herrliche Bleibe mit super Blick (von meinem Bett, siehe Bilder).
