Today was an extremely stressful day on my part. We were up real early and at the river before the sun was even up. I was driving for the day, which made me nervous as the tide was extremely low. The river is not an easy place to navigate and with the combination of low tide and moving sandbars I was stressing already. Daniele want’s me to learn the river real well, so he sat back as I navigated down. Of course it would happen on my day of driving but all of a sudden the engine started to smoke, and this high pitched wining noise started to go off. I slowed down real quick, cut the engine and lifted it out of the water. Were still not sure what happened to it, but somehow the engine overheated and the noise and smoke were due to that. As it was Saturday, and we wanted to take it to the mechanic and not risk any damage, we had to turn around before the shop closed at 12. We navigated back real slow, loaded the boat and headed back. At the shop, the guy said that it is common for trash to get stuck on the outside of the engine and cut off water flow, and that was most likely the cause. I was still really worried that I had killed the boat, but luckily everything checked out ok.
We checked the weather at the marina and it was crap, so we headed back to the house for the day. Cleaning the boat resulted in a major water fight, which relaxed me quite a bit. For the rest of the evening I helped Daniele with some computer work, took a nap and then went grocery shopping. I made baked mac and cheese for dinner, and surprisingly none of the others had ever had real mac and cheese. Also surprisingly, they decided it was the best meal they had ever eaten. Score on my part! I headed to bed real early as I have been exhausted on the boat lately. Tomorrow is supposed to be a good day, so hopfully we can see some good pods. The weather is going to get real bad on Tuesday and after that we won’t be able to go out for a week due to an incoming storm. At the end of that week Daniele flies to Hawaii for a conference for a week. He has set a goal of at least 3 more samples before he flies out, so we really need to get on that!

I'm on a boat!
Wow, this sounds eerily familiar... :) Glad the boat was ok! Way to navigate like a champ!
