Hi Everyone
Well we're back in Vic Falls and it's great to be back....nothing much has changed around here, still as laid back as ever :-) Although it hasn't exactly been a smooth run getting here........

I left Auckland on Saturday 17th early in the morning bound for Joburg via Melbourne.....I managed to make my tight transfer at Melbourne airport and met up with Kath my travel buddy. We had a hellish 15 hours flying time which dragged very slowly especially as there was a poor baby 2 rows in front who wailed the whole trip, the service was the worst I've ever had on V Australia and it was soooooo hot in the cabin. But anyhoo we made it to Joburg safe and sound, my bag on the other hand did not......I'm still waiting to hear where it is and am keeping my fingers crossed that it's going to turn up safe and sound here today or tomorrow.

We stayed overnight in Joburg near the airport then went straight back in the morning for my next catastrophe.... checking into our flight to Vic Falls. I stupidly left the credit card that I paid for my flight with back in NZ but needed it to validate the payment....so I had to pay again which resulted in me standing in line for over an hour to do it and pretty much running through to catch our flight! So much for a relaxing wander around Joburg Airport. And now get to go through the rigmarole of claiming the original ticket back from South African Airways....oh well at least I know for next time!!

The flight up to Vic Falls was fabulous and it was lovely to arrive to sunny warm weather and that Zimbabwe charm :-) We're staying at the Rest Camp in a little chalet....very basic; 2 beds, a table and a couple of chairs. A fridge was moved into our room yesterday so we went out shopping for breakfast and lunch stuff.....I was pleasantly surprised at how much food there is around this time. A new huge supermarket has opened and there's lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy products and meat which seemed in short supply last year while we were here.

We've been doing a lot of walking around checking out places we missed last time, a visit to the Vic Falls Hotel was a surprise with manicured lawns, fountains, high tea and beautiful views of the bridge to Zambia....you could almost forget the dirt roads & begging children just up the road. We came across a few warthog grazing on the lawns outside...probably the best spot for fresh green grass in town.

And we checked out every restaurant in town to work out our eating destinations for the next 10 days....there are quite a few options.

That's it for now....more to come soon.
