Today we got to Dawson Creek, which is the official beginning of the Alaska Highway. we took pictures at Mile 0 and we went into the museum that told about the building of the road. It was built in 1942-1943 by the U.S. Army. We headed out on the road to the singing of John Denver "Going Up to Alaska".
We paid $1.27 per litre for diesel at Buckinghorse Lodge. Ouch. We drove through a driving rain a few times, but mostly the day was sunny with clouds. Now we're seeing fewer farms and less civilization. We didn't see any moose today either.
We spent the night in Fort Nelson. Since we got in later than expected we decided not to cook. We had dinner at Dan's Pub while all the tv's were tuned to the Ultimate Fight Championship. It seemed the whole town kept pouring in to see the fights. There was alot of eye-rolling at our table. We ate quickly.
