The Canyon is Grand

Wow, if you ever have an opportunity to travel to the Grand Canyon, take it. It lives up to all they hype. As soon as you step to the edge, the canyon just opens up. It is hard to take it all in and the pictures are always different because the light changes.

The train trip was great. We arrived at the depot and were entertained by a group of wildwest cowboys. The interesting part is that these cowboys traveled with us. We were entertained by a number of different singers and comedians on the train as well. At the end of the day we were 'robbed' by the same gang who entertained us in the morning. They rode up on horses, the train stopped, and they came through asking for money and other valuables. And of course the Marshall came through looking for the train robbers.

We walked only part of the trail. It was a perfect weather day. 80 degrees and a slight breeze. Not a cloud in the sky. It was difficult to only limit our picture taking to the ones we did. We were quite tired by the 2 1/2 hour walk and had waited to get lunch. Unfortunately we couldn't find the grill and were stuck with a couple of hot dogs. We made up for it at dinner tonight. Went to Rod's Steakhouse, a local favorite. It was excellent and made it one of the best vacation days so fare.

The only damper on the great day is the news that tornados have struck Minnesota. It sounds like there were a couple deaths and lots of damages. Will try to follow on line through WCCO. If any of our family or friends were in the path, please let us know.

Off to the North Rim of the canyon tomorrow and to Utah.
