First Night in Dubai

The Dubai airport looks amazing. It is almost like walking around in a huge nightclub. Clear glass elevators, 3 story waterfalls, lights everywhere. Jumbotrons everywhere. The largest Duty Free shop i've seen (granted i've only seen like 5).
I met up with my Sigma Pi brother Kabir and he took my friend Galen and i around the city for a 1 nigh tour as Galen was leaving the next morning for S. Africa. At 8 oclock at night the temperature outside was 80degrees Farenheit with a humidity of what must have been 99%!!! I was sweating already from just walking from the airport to the car.

Driving to his house it was amazing to see the city lit up in lights. It reminded me of a Vegas/San Francisco mix with the lights and city structures. Reaching his house I greeted his maid saying "hello Mrs. Seth"... fail didn't realize at first. After settling all my stuff down in what looked like my very own hotel room. We headed out to pick up some of Kabir's friends and hit the town.

We went to the Mall of the Emirates to smoke some sheisha. The sheisha places are all in the back of restaurants and cafes in closed rooms. I felt like a VIP walking into a pretty awesome looking restaurant and just walking to the back where there was an room enclosed by glass. Behind the glass were several tables and the air was filled with a permanent haze of flavored smoke. On a big projector screen a random soccer game was playing.

Kabir ordered us some falafels, hummus with meat, and some lamb to munch on and some Moroccan tea while we got a couple hookahs. Service in Dubai is so much more amazing than in the US. Coals were brought to us (free of charge) every few minutes and the bowls were cleaned by attendants every 20/30 minutes or so. I am not a big fan of tea, in fact I don't drink tea at all, but the Moroccan tea was quite amazing.

After the initial sheisha place we picked up another friend and went to see the Burj Khalifa and the Singing Fountains. The fountains unfortuntaley were closed for the night (considering it was midnight). The Burj looked amazing, although it kind of disappeared in the night sky at the top because of the haze in the sky. In dubai there is this sandy/dirt haze that floats around, which I originally mistook for fog. We ended the night by going to a Lebanese Bakery and getting some cheese bread, which was amazing and I will definitely have to try after a night of drinking as I hear it is even more amazing.

Up on the to do list for dubai is to see Atlantis, top of Burj Khalifa, singing foutains when they are working, Burj Al Arab (sail looking hotel), Jumerieh Beach, the gold market, perhaps even go snowboarding indoors in the mall.
