Back to Reality

After several days at high altitude we decided to head back to reality!!

Heavy snow had fallen the night before and the previously mellow path out down the valley was now a lumpy, bumpy ice rink. Guy and GP proved adept and managed the perilous ice walkway, whereas i just seemed to slip and slide all over the place.... not very graceful at all, but we did all make it to warmer climes, and the path cleared once again.

Retracing our steps back past waterfalls and now familiar valleys in two days we made back to the village of Chomrong where we met two English girls, ( who we had passed en route) Rosie who was celebrating her birthday, and best mate Clara, together we shared a chatty evening of pizza, scrummy chocolate cake and hot showers (it had been a while...no such facilities at base camp!)

Now it was time to change up a gear and with full tummies and high spirits we took the plunge, and set forth to finish the mission.

On the final day, with GP leading the group at a super fast pace we used the porters' 'secret' route out.
It followed the river on a much less arduous trail, allowing us to see the less touristy side of the valleys, and share a smoke with porters relaxing between deliveries . The scenery, though not as dramatic, was still beautiful...with butterflies and wooded riverside areas, it kept us distracted from our sore legs, enabling us to push on towards the finish line.

After a very demanding 7hours of hot, sunny downhill paths, shared once again with clanging mules we were finally at the end!!
120kms, 6kms up and 6kms down, and all in a very respectable 11 days, we had overcome tiredness, aching knees, and surely a million stone steps.

We had conquered the trek.

Relieved, and elated we took a jeep 'home' to Pokhara, passing the start point on the way the sense of achievement was truly magnificent, Well done to all of us.
