Didn’t we have a lovely time the day we went to Blackall - the home town of Debby’s relatives who emigrated years ago.
Debby had met one of them when she was 17, but had no contact since, didn’t even know where they lived, or if they were still there, or even alive. So we went to see the town, which had been Debby’s ambition since she was 17.
After some sightseeing we sticky beaked the local pub. Photos on the walls of the local football team did not show the family name of McDonald. The republican, Nev Dolinski, offered his help. Not only did he know Debby’s cousin Nigel, but Nigel was actually in town that day! Nev discovered where he was and off we went in search. Poor Nigel, there he was minding his own business and family pounce on him! It has to be said that he is very like Debby’s Dad, though smaller. A very nice man and an overwhelming moment for both him and Debby.
Nigel and Lindsay very kindly invited us to visit. Unfortunately we were not able to stay the night but we had a lovely afternoon at the farm. Nigel took us out to see some of the farm and we learned so much about the life they lead.
Leaving was an adventure on it’s own, the dusk roos lining the unsealed road were an eye opener, we must have seen a hundred or more. As we drove back to the caravan between Blackall and Barcaldine a big roo embarked on a suicide mission and threw itself at the Land Rover. Luckily for us no damage was done, the headlamp pushed back in!!!!!

What an Adventure
Wow what an adventure pitty you couldn't have stayed a few days to really experience farm life in the outback to compare with your English farming background. It must have been a shock for your cousin though did he even know you lived in Australia and were Aussies now You sound like your having a ball love JAG
