the drive to the blue hole update time again for those who are still semi interested
the last few days in egypt were cool, dahab is a great place. possibly the lowlight of the trip so far though was the mt sinai trip. not sure how they tricked us into doing this but this was the trip.
1)3 hour bus ride leaving the hotel at 11pm.
2)3 hour walk up a mountain (starting around 2am), the last 750 metres were very similar to the 1000 steps near the dandenongs, wasn't that difficult, but very boring having to wait for a couple of the physically challenged people as it was dark so we had to stay as a group.
3)wait for 2 hours for the 5.30 am sunset in the freezing cold.
4)only saw a bit of the sunset due to the large crowd (around 400 people), some of whom were singing hymns, 3 or 4 people applauded when the sun finally came up, i nearly spewed up. (what the hell did they think was going to happen)
5)2 hour walk back down the mountain.
6)3 hour bus ride back to the hotel (got back about midday, knackered)
absolute stitch up.
apparently mt

freezing on mount sinai sinai is the place where god gave the 10 commandments to moses, although my lonely planet guide said that it was very doubtful. (if it happened at all.... which it didn't)
as i said the dahab part was good times though, went snorkelling at a place called the blue hole which is apparently 2nd behind the great barrier reef, very cool.
after dahab we embarked on an 8 hour bus ride back to cairo, stayd overnight at the hotel, then had a flight to athens, (fortunately not cancelled like all the other people on our tour because of the ash who were headed back to london.) followed by a 16 hour overnight bus from athens to here.
staying at the hostel mostel in sofia which is possibly the best yet, get free breakfast which is a good spread, free pasta and beer for dinner, and our 12 euro each a night double room is huge with a massive kitchen, bedroom, living room and has a computer with free internet, hence the length of this message.
last night after our free feed at the hostel we wandered down to a place called the ale house, classy little

blue hole, Dahab place where the tables have a tap on the wall next to them which you pour your own beer out of (which is brewed on site). next to the tap it tells you how many mls you've drank and you pay at the end. 660 mls (3 glasses) cost us 3.50 lv ($3). i reckon in a few months when we are in germany a similar experience will cost 10 times as much.
today went for a walk around sofia and saw all the sites, plenty of churches and the usual boring tourist crap, but the alexander nevski cathedral is worth googling (if you can't wait for us to pop a few photo's of it onto facebook.)
tomorrow heading to veliko tarnovo which is one of the other main cities of bulgaria for 2 nights then off to istanbul for our anzac day tour.
could be interesting if some of the people from london can't make it to turkey because of the flight cancelations, could be a bit less crowded for us.
we have a flight booked from turkey to london on the 29th of April so hopefully the ash has cleared by then.
