I am now back in Christchurch for 2 hours, ending one period of my trip and starting another.
The last 2 days were full of hard work, but as always - also a lot of fun. I drove 700 km in these 2 days, from Dunedin to a beautiful place called Mt Cook, and today to Christchurch.
Mount Cook is the highest mountain in NZ. The glaciers I visited 2 weeks ago belong to the same area but there is no access from one side to the other, just a long drive around the mountains. So Yesterday I finally arrived to the other side, with marvelous Alpine views.
I checked in my hostel (actually a dorm room in a camp site, which is not as fancy as my usual places), where they also had the office and "airport" for helicopter flights over the mountains. Well, I couldn't resist. I ALWAYS wanted to fly in a helicopter!
The flight was a dream! Words cannot describe. Being so close to the mountain peaks, the glaciers... and without effort at all :-)
(Yuval, it's all because of you as you told me about Muller Hut hike. I just replaced it with an easier way to see the view :-)
Later I went to the Mt Cook village, pretty undecisive about my plans since I was really tired. In the information office I met a group of 6 Israelis, averagely 1 year after the army... One was 24, the oldest... I decided to do the walk with them: their happiness and energy filled me with energy too, erased my fatigue. We had a lunch picnic (unlike me, they actually cook!) and went on the Hooker's valley walk: a VERY easy walk with wonderful panorama. We also spent the night together at the camp site (they really camp), sharing their good "home-cooked" food with my delights: wine and Tim Tam.

Today I am going to return my car after driving over 3500 km in NZ. I am joining an Israeli guy I met here 2 weeks ago, and hoping for good travel partnership!
