On our day in Sydney, it rained, which actually wasn't so bad, as the temperature was much more moderate. We had been dreading a day in town in in 30 C weather! The rain didn't stop us from seeing what we wanted to see! We purchased a day pass on the public transit, which allowed us to travel in to town by train, and then ride on any of the ferries which run around the harbour. We rode on 3 of them, and saw all the city sites from the water. We even stayed dry while we did it! We got off the ferry at Manley beach, at which time the rain stopped. We walked thru the town and checked out the beach- watched the surfers for awhile, and then jumped back on the ferry.
Back in Sydney, we hopped on the bus and rode it to Bondi Beach. On a hot summer day, Bondi has had 35,000 people on the beach! Yikes! Glad I wasn't one of them!
We hadn't realized how big a sport surfing is over here. Every beach has many aspiring surfers- waiting for that perfect wave! We've spent much time watching them, waiting for them to catch that perfect wave!
After Bondi, we took the bus back to town and walked around Darling harbour. We visited the Sydney opera house- which is spectacular with it's unique architecture.
All in all, it was a busy day, and we gratefully sank into the seats on the train for the ride back to our hotel.

AFter Sydney, we continued driving north. On the way, we found our dream boat....ha ha- in Newcastle. Check out the pics of this 165 footer! I was thinking we would look ultra chic at the helm!

One of our favourite stops was the sand dunes at Port Stephens . We walked for ages on them, and then spent time jumping down, boarding down them, and generally being silly!

The Koala Hospital was a neat experience. This is where they bring many of the injured and sick bears in for treatment. There is a history of each animal, with the story of why it is there and when it is expected to be released- or not. THey are soooooo cute! The biggest threat to them here are dogs and cars, due to the increased people population.

One of the big things to eat here is "pies". There are many bakeries selling different kinds of pies: individual little pies filled with meat and veggies- and the biggest selection of 56 different kinds. How do you choose?

When we finally reached Kendra's, we enjoyed a dinner cooked by her and Dave- yippee! Finally- I get to sit back and watch her cook! That evening, we tried our hand at lawn bowling. As usual, there is more to the game than meets the eye! It's not a easy as you think to place the ball just where you want it on the green! I have to admit, the guys won- but only by one point!

From here, we will head to our most northern point on this road trip- Bundaberg. I'll tell you about it next time!
