This is only one of the several falls that we saw on our way to Waianapanapa
Early Sunday morning Chris drove Austin out to a little town called Paia where she suggested would be a good place for us to catch a ride into the town at the far east of Maui called Hana. We stood with a cardboard sign for a couple of hours until a couple of dudes picked us up and took us as far as Twin Falls. We spent a little time exploring the trails behind the fruit stand there and eventually came back to stand out on the road trying still to catch a ride to Hana. The couple that stopped for us couldn't have been better. They were from Argentina but had lived on Maui for 18 years and they took us all the way (3 hours) to the office of the campsite where we had planned to stay for the next two nights at a town near Hana called Waianapanapa. So for the entire ride to Hana Austin and I rode in the back of two different trucks, experiencing the open air views of the extensive Hana Highway (and the crazy driving of the Argentinian guy).

This campsite was gorgeous! It was a well maintained park that looked

out over a lava field and the ocean and had a small black sand beach right down the path from our tent. We explored for hours, got a bit of a sunburn, took lots of pictures, set up our tent, cooked dinner and then rounded out our night talking with our neighbors Alison and Steve, organic candle makers from Oregon.

The next day we hiked the 3.1 mile road to Hana along the lava sea cliffs. In Hana we searched out and found the famous Red Sand Beach. It was extremely secluded and protected cove. While laying out on the clothing optional beach, Austin spotted Monk Seal that was coming out of the water. The seal came up onto the beach and hung out with us for the rest of the time that we were there. We stayed for a while and swam a little with a bunch of naked Japanese tourists then we made our way back to Waianapanapa for dinner and Bed.
