I don't think Sydney is a place for me

I hate to say this but I am so ready to come home. While I have having a lot of fun I am so sick of the rain, cockroches, not having a car, and too much down time. But begin I have to talk about my adventure out in Sydney the other night. As I expected the night ended up being a huge ordeal and because of that I have no desire to go out in Sydney again. So to get there we had to walk the 5 blocks to the bus stop (in the rain of course), then take the bus for 55 minutes to downtown Sydney. Then we had to take a cab ride to the club. The cover charge was $30!!!! Needless to say I didn’t buy any drinks in the club, but if I had it would have cost $10 each. Rochelle and I left the club at 3am (even though they don’t close til 5am here) to catch the last late-night bus out of Sydney at 4am. On the way out of the club Rochelle slipped on the wet floor and landed on top of our phone  So now we are phone-less. We tried to get a cab and after asking where we needed to go the cab driver refused to drive us because of the short distance. Next four strangers preceded to yell at the cab driver saying they would report him if he didn’t drive us, reluctantly he gave in. Rochelle and I spent the next 10 minutes fearing for our lives in the back of this cab while the driver drove about 50 mph in downtown Sydney.

After reaching the Sydney central station someone told us to walk about 10 blocks down to meet this one bus that goes to Dee Why (where we are staying). Of course during the walk the rain returned with full force. Upon reaching the stop we learned that the bus didn’t run this late. A driver told us to another 5 blocks to another bus. As you probably expected there was no other bus…. After asking a local for directions we thanked him and walked another couple of blocks (in the rain). For some reason this Australian felt we were rude to him and he then decided to follow and yell at us for those couple of blocks. Finally after realizing we would never find the right bus Rochelle and I conceded to the fact that we would just have to wait it out in the city until the first bus at 6:45. By 4:00am we were sitting in a 24 hour fast food place trying to waste time by eating. We then walked the 10+ blocks back to where that crazy cab driver had dropped us off. Next we sat in McDonalds for another hour and finally another hour at the bus stop. If it had been any other city then Sydney I don’t think we would have made it; for one Sydney stays alive through the night so there were a bunch of people around at all times (never once, except for the angry Australian, did we feel unsafe) and secondly while it rained the whole time the temp was still around 75 so we never got cold even in our short dresses. We finally made it home around 7:30 and then just slept the whole day. So that was my first and last night out in Sydney….

Two days ago we took a day-trip into the city. We saw the Opera House, Darling Harbor, and the Rocks. Oo and we also saw our first Starbucks! Given that a black coffee there was $4.40 I decided I didn’t need one that bad. The city was fun, there was a lot to see and for once it was actually sunny. We did see our first rainbow parakeet, upon seeing it Rochelle said “look someone’s bird must have gotten loose,” I reminded her that these beautiful birds are native to Australia. Instead of taking the bus back to Dee Why we took the ferry which offered a wonderful scenic view of the city, including the Harbor Bridge. We had a bbq that night and had kangaroo meat! I wasn’t a fan but I am glad I tried it.

Finally yesterday we went to Manly beach. While the sun was out it was very very windy, so much in fact that we had to spend a few hours trying to get all the sand out of our hair and ears. Still the sun was strong and despite numerous applications of sunscreen I burned everywhere. Next time I need to be more careful.

We still have a little more of a week in Sydney and I am already bored. Luckily we got a free week at the anytime fitness here so we are going to start working off all that beer and hotdogs. Since Rochelle and I are not going out again we needed to find something to do while the other girlies are out partying. I am definitely ready to move up the coast so hopefully this weekend goes by fast.

PS. I know these blogs probably have a lot of errors but there is no spell check and I have a very limited amount of computer time. Thanks for understanding.
