Before
at logan airport (7am-ish) Hey everyone (Success!!! this blog is working!!), so I tried myhardest to gain access to my host family (who are the nicest people I've met so far... since of course I have yet to meet anyone else, but they are adorable.) I have no idea if they have wireless or a land line, but I was told to use their computer.. and my host sister had to go to a physics class today. Anywho- I was trying to get onto skype. but like I said.. I don't have access to anything internet wise on my computer. ummm what else shall we talk about? oh so pretty much when we arrived to the airport, we were treated like famous people, we had to walk in a line, and smile and wave at random chinese people (go figure) and then there were three video cameras (intense ones, like the ones that news people use) and tons of cameras taking pictures. People were screaming names, and shoving flowers in your face, it was quite fantastic. After my host sister found me (who knows how she knew which one I was) we were rushed to take pictures smile and wave some more at the cameras (before I forget, there was this cameraman who stuck his camera lens right in my face (practically) and told me to smile and wave at him... ) And then after a huge group photo, my host family and I ran out of there, we were somehow the first ones to leave. And it took a good amount of time to get back to her house, then we walked over to a (4 star- as my host dad was really excited to tell me) hotel's restaurant to eat... My host mom kept piling food on my plate, which I felt bad about since I couldn't eat really any of it, since I wasn't hungry.
So the plane ride from Boston to Chicago was around 2hours long while the ride from Chicago to Beijing was 15 housr snd 57 minutes long. (I didn't sleep at all..)
My host sister (although she didn't say) gave me her room and is sharing a bed with my host mom and my host dad is living in their other apartment that is close to his work place, (but not clost to the high school, so it's pretty far away.. I guess.) I live on the 22nd floor.. but I did get a key to the house and a little card just incase I'm lost.. and take a taxi so I can give it to them, to get me home.. isn't that cute? BUT that also means that I am being give a bit of freedom, since I get to roam by myself!! So I will have a chance to explore on my own more than I thought I would be since we were told that (at least for the girls on the exchange program) we might have really strict parents who wouldn't let us "free".
I will be leaving tomorrow morning (cloudy and dark) to hop on a train for 26 hours to head out to chengdu and guilin for our Newton group 10 day trip before the Spring festival. Besides the 6 other students and 2 chaperones (Celina, Antoine, Tony, Emily, Mike, Maia, Ms. Sargent, and Ms. Mcquillin) we have a guest (John) who graduated from North last year, who is coming with us. (he gave me some chocolate cookies on the plane and I gave him some lotion, and saved him from getting hit by the above.. thing that you put carry ons in.. so we're friends now, no big deal)
So since I'll be away for 10 days I won't have access to the internet at all, so you can still email me tons of stuff, just be aware that I won't be able to respond until (at the earliest) Feb. 13th.
With all of that said, I love and miss all of you. And I'll be keeping you posted. (I'll add pictures in a few hours..since I have to ask my host family if they have any from the airport.. since it was way too hectic to take out my camera too.)
