5:25 AM- BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP,BEEP, BEEP, BEEP ,BEEP, BEEP……………..BEEP. Finally Morgan was able to take the battery out of the alarm clock because apparently the snooze wasn’t working. Sigh, another long day lies ahead.

6:20 AM- STOMP, STOMP, STOMP…..shuffle, shuffle onto the Premier Motor Service taking us to a place named Iluka.

8:15 AM- DROP OFF- literally in the middle of a wooded area with one lone bus stop. HUH? Where are we? Clearly not in the cute town of Iluka we saw online the previous night.

8:20 AM-HMMMMMMMMMMMMM Guys, what do we do now? Where ARE WE? Shouldn’t the ocean be near us? Oh my goodness, is that a kangaroo? It is…….BO’ING, BO’ING, BO’ING. Cody, the smart hunter and our “asker of important questions” found out about a bus that could take us to this “Iluka”. This bus would arrive at 8:55.

8:45- VRROOOOM!.......Shoot, was that our bus? It was early, why was he going so fast? That couldn’t have been our bus. I really hope it wasn’t because the next bus isn’t until 2:45 PM.

8:57- PUTT! PUTT! Hallelujah!!! This, my friend, is our bus. WHOOT WHOOT!!
9:15- $7.50 AUD later, we arrive in the mysterious town of Iluka! HOORAAY.!!! And…there’s…..NOTHING here. But we do see the ocean!

9:20- Now about that accommodation…..SCAN, SCAN….hmmm, maybe that’s one up the street. Turns out, it was just a restaurant with some friendly surfers hangin seaside. “Is this a hotel?!!!” said Morgan to 3 surfers. After a great pause and a few chuckles, they responded “In Iluka?....nope, not here!” “Oh, ok..well thanks” replied us all. “But you’d find one in Yamba across the river, just need to hop on the ferry” Oh excellent, where’s the ferry?” Ah, it just left but there’ll be another one in a bit…….here, hop in, I’ll drive ya over.” Ooookkaay…..thanks?! (No this man did not turn out to be a serial killer or creepster, he was very friendly. Even gave us a short tour of the beautiful town)

10:25- After a delicious breakfast at Makuti Café, we hop on the ferry to Yamba, crossing our fingers that we’ll find a hostel to hang our hats.

11:00- FINALLY ARRIVE!! Immediately check ourselves into the Yamba YHA Beach Resort. Pretty posh I might add for a hostel.

11:01- SIGH! That was a long morning. For a second I thought we’d be camping in the middle of nowhere.
Our time so far in Yamba has been wonderful! We can’t say enough about the breathtaking views, picturesque beaches and hot weather. We’ll be staying 2 nights here. We’re hoping to see some dolphins tonight and maybe catch some waves tomorrow!!

Ps: Kaliey and I had a BLAST writing this so sorry if you all couldn’t quite enter in!!

xoxo

Iluka
Ah yes, we have Spuzzum in BC and I can think of several places in Ireland that compare to Iluka. You've heard the joke about the competition where 1st prize is a week in Iluka and 2nd prize is 2 weeks in Iluka? Looking forward to more updates.
