Today Eric and I have found ourselves asking the same question, WHERE did the time go?
It is hard to believe that 6 months ago we arrived with four suitcases in tow, no home to speak of and the daunting task of finding jobs. Somehow we managed to secure jobs and an apartment within the first couple weeks (both hard to come by!) and though neither were ideal, we stuck it out and made it work. Sure luck might have been on our side but we like to think our determination to make this adventure a success had something to do with it as well.
We remember the wide eyed looks we received prior to coming to Perth from family, friends and colleagues who thought we were a tad bit crazy....and hey, they were right...moving across the world as newlyweds could have been a disaster!
There were definitely points along our journey at which we questioned our own sanity for leaving a relatively comfortable life back home for the unknown and often challenging experience we had in Perth. However, in the end our choice to stick it out has provided us with memories and experiences we will cherish for years
to come (and we haven't even seen the east coast yet).
While there are definite aspects of Perth that we will gladly leave behind (i.e. bad drivers, lack of ozone, extreme heat, air-conditioned stores with doors wide open, lack of daylight savings, etc), the beautiful sights, warm weather, beaches and landscape will be missed. More important, however, is the people we've met and the friends we have made and our now saying good-bye to. Had it not been for a few key people, it is likely that we would have packed our bags early.
As we prepare to head out for one final dinner on the foreshore of Perth, the feeling is bittersweet. We are looking forward to four weeks of travel along the east coast of Australia, making stops in Carins, Fraser Island, the Whitsundays, Brisbane, Melbourne and finally...Sydney. We leave Sydney for Vancouver to catch up with family and friends (and see some of the Olympics) before heading to our final destination, home sweet home. Stay tuned for blog updates from the east coast!
Peace out Perth.
