Day 36: Friday, January 1st, 2010. REVISED!
Prague, Czech Republic
We had scheduled another tour today, one that would go to
Kutna Hora. However, after talking with Emma the tour guide the other day (along with a couple of other people on the tour who had done Kutna Hora), we cancelled. They all said it was a giant waste of time, even Emma who is from the Czech Republic and is a History major at the George University. So, between that warning and the fact that I'm still not feeling that great, I vote not to go and Susan would rather wander around Prague anyway.
I wander with her for a bit and we stop at a cute cafe where i can get some Internet while we load up on tea and coffee. Today is spent shopping (mainly window shopping) and is nice and relaxed, just what I needed.
REVISED PART:
I completely forgot about this until I found the pictures on my iPhone. We wander by
Obecni Dum (Prague's Municipal House) where they were selling tickets for various Chamber Orchestra shows. We buy 2 tickets for their 4pm show and then we head over to a nearby mall to waste
away the time. We get back to the Municipal House early so we're one of the firsts to take our seats (we choose the cheap ones towards the back.) It's actually good that we were sitting towards the back because halfway thru the first song, I felt the forbidden cough coming on. You know the cough, the one that normally you can ignore/hold in unless you're at a recital or a funeral. So I made a dash for the door and coughed my brains out once I had closed the door and was standing in the lobby. It was the kind of cough where your eyes watered and you ended up sneezing, I'm pretty sure everyone standing in the lobby thought I had brought the swine flu to their doorstep. There was a bar in the lobby (ironically enough,
"The American Bar".) It's a shame I was in the process of dying then because I didn't take a look around Prague's oldest bar. Instead, I sat in a chair right outside of it and chugged water and popped Halls. While sitting there, four young, exuberant Americans came down the stairs and were thrilled to see "The American Bar." One of the girls
looked at me and explained, "We're American" as to why they were so happy. I raised my water bottle to her and croaked "so am I". I don't think they wanted me to represent our country and they moved quickly inside. I got my coughing under control and headed back in for the final 40 minutes of the program. It was beautiful music, and if I hadn't packed the brochure already, I could tell you what songs were played. Oh well.
Around 5pm, I'm ready for more Internet time (it's an addiction, don't judge me) so I head back to the Internet Cafe I used yesterday and Susan goes back to the botel to rest for a bit. Around 6pm, I notice that the Internet Cafe is empty, wonder why, and go back to IMing. I head back to the botel around 7pm and the streets are absolutely packed. Odd. I get to the botel and Susan let's me in on the fun. Apparently the big fireworks display happens on New Years Day at 6pm, not New Years Eve. So, just as Susan got back to the botel, the crowds were forming and the fireworks started. At least one
of us got to enjoy them, oh well. We grab some chinese food (I'm craving Sesame Chicken like no tomorrow but that seems to be an American dish) and head back to the botel to pack. She flies home tomorrow (Portland, Oregon) at 8:30am and I have to catch a 5am train to Nuremberg, Germany (therefore, a 4:30am taxi). We watch some more West Wing as we pack and lights are out by 10am. No noisy upstairs neighbors this time- yea!

You used fireworks to distract the town so you could have the whole internet to yourself?
You're lucky. The burglar ninjas are from Kunta Hora. You missed them.
