After one night clubbing in Brisbane we were quite hangover the next day. As we didn’t get further away from the hostel as the next supermarket we didn’t see much of Brisbane. We checked out the next morning but left the car at the hostel and spend one more day in Brissie (as an ossie would say). I must say we are still proud about us as we went to the art gallery AND the modern art gallery. Most of it wasn’t that impressive but yeah it was for free. We also went in a “best of caricatures 2009” gallery which was really good (some of them we didn’t get though as we are not really well informed about Australia’s politic). After all this culture we went to West End. A nice stylish part of Brisbane where we had some lunch and wondered around for a bit. After that it was time to go. Next stop was surfers paradise, just 50km south of Brisbane. The heart of the gold coast is like I would imagine Miami. Skyscrapers at the beach and a lot of tourists. So we had another good night there and one day at the beach. Swimming in the sea here is a bit different than in Europe. The waves are massive and the currents insane strong. I really didn’t think water can push you away so hard…
We left surfers paradise that night and stayed the night in a quite backstreet (not without two people asking what we were doing there though). As we wanted to leave the next morning out battery didn’t turn on and we didn’t leave any lights on or anything. Luckily we parked at the top of a hill so we were able to push-start it. But never the less our battery was dead, we needed a new one. The problem was it was a Sunday, just as it had been with the flat tire. We still went into springbrook national park which was really risky but we push-start it again. Jonas felt a bit ill that day so we didn’t do any long walks in the national park. Therefore we drove to Murwillumbah in the afternoon (yes you spell it like that). There wasn’t much to do in Murwillumbah but we hoped to get a new, used battery the next day so had a lazy afternoon and stayed for the night. We actually got lucky the next morning and found a new (used) battery at a wreckers for just 30$. With a new battery we left Murwillumbah and made our way to Nimbin. Australian roads are really not good, especially when you leave the highway (well you can’t really blame them considering how big the country is). Anyway after some crazy looking bridges we arrived in Nimbin. It is hard to imagine a place like Nimbin. Well I guess there are not many places (if at all) like it in the world. It is a paradise for hippies and all the shops and sell stuff to make you high basically. Anyway we had a fun time in Nimbin and found a really nice place with a good view for the night.

The next morning we drove through the mountains to Byron Bay. Byron Bay is the most eastern point of oz’ mainland and really good for surfing. Quite a few people we met in Ayr while working were here at the moment so met at the beach. After a quite night we went surfing the next day and had a few beers before we went out. We slept that night at the beach because the police told us already we can’t sleep where we parked the car. I got woken up coz the waves made my sleeping bag wet (the stupid flood came higher than I thought I would). After we dried our sleeping bags, had some breakfast at the beach and sorted the car out we said goodbye to everyone (we will meet them over new years in sydney again) we headed south again. As it took us quite a while to sort the car out it was already quite late when we arrived I Coffs Harbour (280km south). I liked Coffs Harbour as there was a beachvolleyball court and I had a nice game with some locals in the sunset.

Yesterday was the first day with rain (well more then 5 minutes) since 7 weeks. My 3rd day of rain in oz. We still drove to Forster and Booti Booti national park. The rain stopped just before sunset and the light was amazing at the lake (the photos are how it actually looked, no photoshop). After the sun vanished we had some good pancakes =)

My alarm woke me up at 7.30 this morning as that is the time the rangers start working. We had some breakfast at a lonely 7 mile beach. We are in Newcastle now (130km south) and did our washing today. It was a bit weird setting up a washing line in the middle of the park to dry our stuff though.
It is less then 200km to Sydney now. We want to get there the day after tomorrow so we have plenty of time.
