Well, we've been MIA for a bit now and don't have much of an excuse other than the usual weekly stuff we've been doing around here! We had a great Thanksgiving last Friday night at our friend's place out in Yantian district- everyone was kind enough to cook delicious food and we really pulled together a feast! Martin and I couldn't really cook given the fact that we had to travel about 2 hours to get there & don't have a toaster oven, so we supplied beer, wine and paper plates/napkins. It was special to be with our friends here, that's for sure.
My parents are officially in the area! They landed in Hong Kong late Tuesday night and have been busy exploring the massive city on their own. Martin and I will head down there early tomorrow morning as neither of us have classes to teach. I feel a little bit like a kid on Christmas Eve- I'm not sure I'll be able to sleep tonight! 😊 We'll bring them back to Shenzhen on Sunday and they'll stay with us for the next two weeks-- although we might not post much, my dad has started his own blog at tworoadschina.blogspot.com if you're interested.
These next few months are looking like they'll be pretty busy-- and FUN! My parents leave December 21st, and then it'll be Christmas (no time off, but perhaps we'll get together with friends again), then New Years-- at least 6 of us will be heading to Hong Kong to celebrate, which I'm sure will be insane. The semester officially ends the week of Jan 24, but because the students will have exams before that, we have permission to leave for vacation January 16th! We have until Feb 22nd off as the break between semesters and Chinese New Year Celebration. 😊 We just bought tickets to Bangkok, Thailand today and are eagerly beginning to plan our trip. The tentative idea is to travel up through Northern Thailand, over through Laos to Vietnam, down through Vietnam, over to Angkor Wat in Cambodia and eventually back to Bangkok...with a possible detour to Phuket to be beach bums for a few days. We're really looking forward to it- not only because it's vacation, but also to see another part of the world and become true 'backpackers' for a month!
If you don't hear from us for awhile, you know why. 😊

what exciting plans you have for your nice long break! Hard to imagine that you are headed to a country where lots of young Americans DID NOT want to go to back in the 70s!
