As all of you might know I came to South Korea over four-and-a-half years ago, January will be Five years. Anyway, my main reason for coming here was to get debt free and save money, well two-and-a-half years ago I met a very special person whom I've spent a great deal of time with and have gone on some great travel adventures with, well this past September we got married, so this blog is really more about my experience with getting married here in South Korea.
Let me start off by saying that getting married here is very, very expensive, it is nothing for a couple to drop $20-30k, Pearl and I wanted to do this on a tight budget, and Pearl did a great job at keeping the cost down and still incorporating allot of options.
First thing that has to do be done is hire a wedding planner; this person will take care of all the decorations, seating arrangements and many other things. About two weeks before the big day we went to a photo studio for our wedding pictures. We arrived early in the morning, around 8am I think, after both of us had our make-up
applied it was time for the photo shoot, and it was a long day, after almost 400 shots we had to sit and choose approximately 30-40 pictures we liked to put in our photo album.
Wedding day, here in South Korea most couples get married in a "Wedding Hall", to save some money we chose to get married at a new convention building, turned out to be perfect, just the right size. I informed everybody that it is customary in the States for the Bride and Groom not to see each other until the start of the ceremony. Everybody involved went out of their way to make sure we did not see each other, at one point I had to leave the room and let Pearl enter, since there was only one way in and one way out. Before the ceremony the photographer is getting pictures of my soon Bride-to-be, behind a screen which I could see the screen, but not her.
During the ceremony our wedding planner is also the MC, there is also a person assigned to stay right next to the bride, to make sure her hair is perfect and the train on her dress
looks perfect, it got to be a little annoying to me, just knowing she was going to be in most of the pictures. We each read our vows and signed them, Pearls older brother read something, there was a picture slide show showing us both in our younger days and when we met, also, since my family could not make it I included pictures of them in our slide show, my mom also made some great strawberry things (sorry mom forgot the name) we then bowed to Pearls family, did some wave thing and we were married, we changed outfits three times and mingled while everybody ate from a very nice buffet spread.
A month later Pearl and I went to the US Embassy to fill out the paper work for our marriage, we then went to the local government office to do the same after we were done that day, it took about 3 hours total, we were finally officially married.
Hope ya'all enjoy the pictures.
