Hello Everybody!

This week passed quickly with lots of Spanish school. Mitch and I play lots of spanish scrabble with our teachers... which we need to cut back on so we learn more grammar...

Earlier this week we visited a coffee plantation and a cultural museum... I found them kinda boring. I saw a beetle though that was like 2 inches long... ugh.

Speaking of nasty.... I reached for the toilet paper in our bathroom at the house and there was a HUGE SPIDER ON IT right in front of my face!!! it was at least twice as big as the biggest house spider I ever saw in Canada and i freaked out and threw the toilet paper across the room and screamed at Mitch to step on it... I don't do well with big spiders.

Last night Mitch and I crashed our first wedding. It was awesome. The guy whose house we are living at is in a band with his wife and they were playing at a big expensive wedding in a fancy hotel in Antigua so they invited us to come along. We dressed as nicely as possible considering we are backpacking. It was gorgeous, the bride was stunning and the music was sweet. I had three glasses of champagne, some expensive appies and then we danced our asses off. When someone asked who we were, we were tempted to tell them we were "Uncle Ned's kids, you know the brother of Aunt Liz?" It was pretty funny we even made shapes with those long balloons like in the movie! It was a good night.

Today, we were supposed to go somewhere cool (Chichicastenagno) and we may still climb the Volcan Pacaya. We are also arranging to work on a horse/goat/fruit/chicken/duck farm in Costa Rica maybe in January so I am very excited about that!

I hope everyone is doing well!

Linds and Mitch

Backpacking in Guatemala
Hello, We flew into Guatemala Airport as well and then took a shuttle immediately to Antigua, which is the safest area to be in. We are taking spanish school (Don Pedro in Antigua) and so we are staying with a Guatemalan family, where we eat our meals and sleep. We are taking spanish lessons 5 hours a day (you can do between 4 and 7) 5 days a week so that we learn to communicate better and then you have the afternoons and weekends free. There are tons of travel agencies in Antigua that you can plan day or weekend trips with and our school also arranges for several tours that are very inexpensive. We recommend visiting Monterrico and doing the Pacaya Volcano hike in the morning. Hope this helps! Lindsay
