Last week, posters were spread around Prague about a free concert in Old Town Square.. Goran Bregović's brass orchestra were scheduled to play at 7:30, and by 5:30, the square was already filled up! Of course, we showed up right when it started, so we had to connect hands and push our way through the lively crowd. We could hear the festivities all the way from the Charles Bridge! The music was traditional Slavic with a contemporary gypsy twist! The crowd was dancing and everyone was speaking different languages.. Girls were up on their boyfriends' shoulders with their arms in the air.. It was quite a site! I took a couple video clips to capture it which are posted to this blog. Most of the music was upbeat with thumping bass drums and hopping melodies, but some would start very slow with beautiful vocals, and between verses, you could feel the tempo pick up,and the bass drum would get the whole crowd going! And this was not just a young event, families were there, and so was my dorm mother Zuzana! Zuzana was given VIP passes and sat in the front row. When I asked her about it, she said "oh it was much too loud, I had to sit in the sound tent, and it was STILL too loud!" She even met the world renown band after the performance!
