So I moved into my own house. I couldn't take living out of a suit case anymore. I found a really good deal on a place. It is a house that a guy just rents out rooms to foreigners that are working or studying or whatever. The place is only $200 dollars a month and it includes all utilities, which is really good for the area I am in. I live with a French couple and two French girls who are studying, an American guy who is doing about the same that I am doing, and a woman from Wales who is studying Spanish. Everyone is pretty cool, but I haven't hung out with them much yet. We are all going to Ica this weekend together though. I am posting some pictures of the house.
I have had some success on finding jobs. I found a job where I translate documents from Spanish to English, which is tough, but it is good money and I can work at home. So far I have worked about 4 days doing that and made $265. I have been hired by a couple language institutes, but I only have 4 hours teaching a week
so far. I teach a conversation class for 2 hours to a woman twice a week. So far, I do not like it. It is really hard to talk for two straight hours and preparing material to talk about is hard.
So right now, I don't do too much. I am actually getting kinda bored some days. There is only so much walking around town that you can do.
I had an interview today at an elementary school and it went really well. They need an English teacher for the rest of the year because someone is having a baby. The position is in second grade and I am pretty sure I got the job. I just have to pass a psychological test on Monday. They said the class is pretty tough to handle, but I think that it can't be worse than my fourth grade class last year. They also said that we will see how things go for getting a job at the school next year. The school is really nice and it is a lot more organized than the school I worked at last year. My interview today was with three different people. Last year
I didn't even interview. The school looks nicer than almost any school I have seen back home. So hopefully that works out. I don't want to get too excited yet, because I am not sure that they said I am hired if I pass the Psych exam or not, but I think it is a pretty good chance.
Other than that, not much is going on. I walk around and explore town during the day. We haven't really had very good weather yet, so I have not gone to the beach. I play soccer with the people from my friend Jeff's organization on Wednesday and Saturday nights, which is pretty fun. Also the times I have gone out on the weekends have been pretty fun. A lot more people and places to go than in Puerto Cortes, where we had 1 bar to go to. The food here is really good. All the restaurants have specials called menus where you can get an appetizer and a main dish and usually a drink for 2 or 3 dollars. The food is good and you can get a lot of different things.
One funny thing I have noticed about this
city is that they have a lot of intersections with no stop signs. These are intersections with a lot of cars too. Everyone just drives slowly up and has to be aggressive getting through. It is amazing that there are not more accidents.
Well, that is about all for now. I will have more updates after my trip to Ica this weekend and if I get that job.
