So we left Sihanoukville at 7 30 this morning. It was throwing it down again so much that the power kept cutting out so I don't think there was a boat trip for the other group today either. We had a four hour drive to the border and then crossed over to Vietnam. Once there it was a 45min drive to Caudoc which is pretty much on the Mekong Delta.
Once we had checked in a local guide took us to the river where we went on a tour on a local boat. First we went to a fish farm where the fish are kept untill six months old untill the eat them. The fish are actually bought over from Cambodia because there is pretty much no fish in the Mekong any more due to unsustainable fishing. Anyway, the fish were crazy. you couldn't see them but as soon as you threw some food in they just went mental. I thought that some of them would fly out! Everyone get wet. Especially one of the Japanese guys who thought for some reason it would be a good idea to jump over the gap in the floor and ended up landing
in the fishes!
After this we took the boat to a place where a woman weaves silk scarves by hand. It was amazing. She could do one silk scarf in about an hour to an hour and a half. I bought a bag from there. It was also an adventure just getting to her house which was in the Mekong like the fish farm 'floating'. you basically had to walk along loads of wooden planks and try not to fall in or slip - quite scary in the rain!
After this we returned to land and went back to the hotel. We were meant to go on a motorbike ride up a mountain after this but due to the rain we cancelled it so I looked forward to having a shower. I should mention that I havn't really showered in Sihanoukville because a. the shower was piss poor - you were more sandy when you came out than when you came in and b. frogs kept coming in through a slat above the shower and I didn't really want to take a shower and have a frog land on my head or anywhere else. I'm sure you'd agree
mum! Anyway about 15mins later the motorbike taxi men said they would still take us up even in the downpour. I however decided not to go, as did Marta because we had got out minds set on a shower and It meant that I got to do this. We also have other chances for bike rides further along whereas many of the others don't as its their last day tomorrow. There was also lightning not long after they left!
Anyway I have to go now because we're leaving for dinner in about five mins - apparently they serve adventurous food! It has also stopped raining!
8-) Hope that everyone is well xxx
So dinner was interesting - it was a very local place. We had bat, rat and snake and a fish hot pot. Rat was really good, the bat was small - didn't have a lot to it and the snake was good but would have been better if it was a bigger snake - more meatier
😊

Hi Becca I must say I am envious of you with all that pampering. It looks as though you are having a wail of a time. You paint a lovely picture of the children. It is just a way of life that they have learnt because there is nothing else for them. I think I would have given in to them, but you know me a soft touch. You say that the rest of the party are leaving in a few days. I hope that your new found friend isn't one of them. I feel better that you have someone with whom you have bonded. Keep up the good work of telling us about your adventure, I do look every day. The food sounds really good, just up my street, although like you said ,I would prefer not to share my experiance with frogs. Continue having a great time and filling us in with your exploits. Take great care Love you Mum xxx
