So we arrived here yesterday after a seven hour bus ride. Once we checked in we spent the afternoon site seeing (the German girls, Sandra and Enis and I). We went to see all the French colonnial buildings such as the opera, post office, independence palace and cathedral. We also had a wander through the market.
This evening we went for dinner at the market. It was a special dinner as eight people were leaving and we had four new members joining. Marta my roomate is not going. She was going to leave us after Vietnam but has now decided to stay on through Laos 😊. The four new members are from China, America, Canada and Germany. They are all girls so now there is only one guy on the tour and then Tim the tour leader!
For dinner I had beef spring rolls which you share with another person. You cook the beef yourself on a hot tile and then assemble a spring roll with all the ingredients they give you. It was a lot of fun! Afterwards we went to a bar for a few drinks. It was a really nice place. We had cocktails, shisha and
there was a belly dancer. After leaving we went back to the hotel and sat outside with a final beer. However three Aussies and an American walked past and we all got chatting. After a second beer we ended up going to a bar up the road for a few more! Unfortunately this meant I didn't get to bed untill about 4am and had to be up at 6 45 for a visit to the Cu Chi tunnells!
Okay I'll tell you more later because I'm going for a facial!! :D
The Cu Chi tunnels were really interesting. It was basically a place which during the Vietnamese war was attacked quite heavily because it was a military base. The people there lived in this network of tunnels and just came up in the evenings when it was safe. They were really clever -we saw all the traps they made and how they created the tunnels so that the Americans couldn't get in or couldn't find them. One main thing was that the Americans were too big to get in! I went through a tunnel which went to 100m below the ground and at one point I had to
crawl to get through. It was very interesting apart from the tour was full of propaganda - calling the Americans 'white devils', it was still very much as if they see them as the enemy. Any Americans who go I think can't help but be offended!
My facial was really good - I was in there about two and a half hours! The woman said that my skin has an allergy to the water and not to wash my face with it anymore! She put some 'medicine' on it and it looked a lot better after. So then we had to catch an overnight train to Nha Trang. It was really nice - apparently a lot nicer than the one we had to catch next from Nha Trang to Hoi An (no cockraches!).
Thanks for all the messages from everyone - sorry I don't reply but by the time I've written these and put photos up its usually time for me to go and do something! Hope everyone is well 😊 xxx
