Good Day

Yesterday we visited Patan City in Nepal but unfortunately due to power failure I could not make use of the internet.

Patan City also known as Lalitpur (City of Fine arts) and the oldest city in the valley. This Buddhist City is said to have been founded by emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BC. Patan is the cradle of arts and architecturew of the valley, a great centre both of the Newari Buddhist religion and of traditional arts and crafts with 136 bahals or courtyards and 55 major temples. Well known amongst these visited are Krishna Mandir, Hiryana Varne Mahavihar, Kumbeshwar temple, Jagathnarayan temple and the Mahabouddha temple.
We spent half a day in the square and thoroughly enjoyed the beauty of this historic square which is frequented by visitors from all over the world. There were over twenty groups visiting the place during our visit.

In the Golden Buddhist Temple we witnessed young ladies sitting in rows clad in sarees praying. There must have been 4 groups of 10 women praying at a time.

We next visited the Pashpatinath Hindu Temple which is the largest of its kind in Nepal. We spent three hours visiting this temple and did our prayers which the resident priest conducted. This temple is awesome and during our visiut there must have been over five thousand people lining up to do their prayers, in this we were lucky that we got ahead of the queue.

The temple has the largest lingum that I have seen.

Our travel agent offered us to fly around Mt Everest which is not far from our hotel @175 dollars a piece. Due to bad weather, we could not go.

This is all for now. We will be leaving tomorrow morning for Hydrabad and hope that the air strike will be over by then.

Regards

Rishi Geetha.
