All systems calibrated *check*… ready for lift off, *check*… Houston, we are a go… T-minus 10, 9, 8…
I board a plane in Denver this evening at 8 PM, connect through London, and arrive at 6:00 PM tomorrow evening in Prague. Long flight… but it will be worth it. I am already a few cocktails in and expect quite a few more on the plane.
(FYI - I will post many more pictures that I take while on this trip in the rest of the travelblog entries)
I am traveling again with my buddy Rob - we go way, way back - who joined me as part of the travel crew and international sin set on the recent trip to Nicaragua and Costa Rica in May of this year. We will spend 2 weeks in the Czech Republic, Poland, and Germany. We will experience two Radiohead shows along the way (in Prague and Poznan), which we found to be a good excuse for making this trip.
We’ll be lodging in hostels most of the time for a few reasons: to keep costs down, to have a better chance to be surrounded by fellow travelers that like to
celebrate and enjoy life, and so that the highjinx and tomfoolery that will inevitably ensue will fit better into that type of surrounding.
I believe stumbling head first into a hallway wall at 5:17 AM while laughing hysterically and singing a slurring rendition of “Eastbound and Down” with a beer in one hand and a cocktail in the other is more acceptable in a hostel than in a 3-star, 4-star, or 5-star property, especially when overseas.
For the record, that type of behavior is not considered being an “ugly American” if it is implemented by a seasoned and experienced professional, particularly if not a drop of beer or cocktail is spilled in the process. This is a little known but very important bit of fine print insisted on by Brigadier General Douglas MacArthur and included in the Treaty of Versailles, signed in 1919, to end World War I. Look it up.
Interesting side note: the Czech central bank is predicting a .02% surge in Gross National Product of the Czech Republic in the next week based purely on our projected alcohol purchasing and consumption. Look it up.
Of course, in the midst of all the imbibing
"Jagerbomb Party"
earlier this year at The Generator Hostel, Berlin, where we are staying our first night in Germany. of spirits and shenanigans, we will see the sites both on and off the beaten path, soak in as much of the culture and history as we can, and make some new friends (yes, believe it or not, even with our irresponsible, risky, and sometimes obnoxious behavior in Central America, we actually made some new friends there). Okay, maybe “making new friends” is pushing it… but I’m sure we’ll find some new drinking buddies.
Stay tuned, reporting from Prague first… until then, Na zdravi!

Slovakia
Don't let Rob take you to Slovakia. He and farmers don't see eye to eye on the placement of feet on train cushions. As a result, he is not welcome to travel in that country. Also, enjoy the ladies. Some of the most beautiful in the world in Eastern Europe.
