Hi Friends!

After a LONG day (2 days?) of chasing the sun West, we made it to Indonesia! During our 12 hour layover in Singapore we fell in love with the airport...free internet, a butterfly sanctuary, many koi ponds and gardens, free movie theaters, nap rooms, hotels, and a pool! seriously I could go on...It was amazing.

Yesterday we arrived in Jakarta in the afternoon and forced ourselves to stay up and wander around and see some of the Independence day celebrations. Apparently Indonesians LOVE Sam...literally. The kids go out of their way to call out "hello mister!"and then burst into a fit of giggles, pretty much everyone stares and adults are always greeting us and asking us how we are doing. We are just going with it...pretending to be the Branjolina of SE Asia.

On our way back to the hotel last night we stopped to eat some dinner at a street vendor. Nasi Goreng - Fried Rice = Sooo tasty! As I bit into what I thought was a lovely green bean I stopped and frantically looked at Sam. My eyes started to water and instead of spitting out the extremely HOT chile I chewed it up really fast and swallowed it...Caitlin's encounter with spicy spicy foods take one. I felt like a cartoon character with steam coming out of my ears...now I know why they do that, my ears were burning! "I feel like I got stung by bees in my mouth!" Lucky for Sam he got dinner and entertainment as I tried to stop the burning...sigh. I swear I'll get used to it after 3 months, right?

Now I know, always bring juice to dinner. Coke and water do not cut it!

Love you all and hope all is well!

Try real hard to touch Buddha in the bell at Borabadour. I did, and I've had good luck ever since, except the time I dislocated by shoulder in Sri Lanka. Be careful of Sam; he gives off a lot of heat. Love, Tom
