Excalibur Hotel Las Vegas
This is the Excalibur Hotel where we stayed in Las Vegas 2/8 - Wednesday
Tomorrow is our last day in Las Vegas. We did not win our fortune in this trip (either). We stayed at the Excalibur Hotel (picture attached). Las Vegas is not what it used to be in the way of inexpensive food and rooms. While you can still find a room at a reasonable price (if you look around)…food is getting pretty expensive. We chose to eat at Harrah’s buffet (Deb, I thought of you), everyday at lunch. They still have one of the best buffets on the strip. Also popping up are a lot of little ‘strip malls’ selling t-shirts & souvenirs. There were always some, but now there are more than ever!!
Something new this year are the ‘Deuce’ buses. They are double-decker buses that run the full length of the strip down to the Freemont St. area in downtown. It is $2.00 for one trip OR $5.00 for a 24 hour pass (which is what we did). It is well worth the $5.00 as you can ride the bus as many times as you want (saves a lot of walking & driving through terrible traffic) and you can even transfer to the other

Lettuce fields and migrant workers in Yuma, AZ city buses if you like. If you get the chance, take a seat on the top floor….you get a whole different view of the strip!
Something else Jim & I had never done…we visited the Wildlife Habitat at the Flamingo. It is a free attraction and you stroll the gardens in which different exotic birds, including Penguins and yes Flamingoes (sp?) wander. I recommend it if you have not yet done this.
2/16 - Thursday
We have moved!! We are now ‘living’ in Winterhaven, CA. Felicity, CA. is about 5 min. away and has been proclaimed to be ‘The Center of the World’! In fact, we went to visit the monument this morning (pics attd). Our two ‘neighbors’ from Arizona are here as well and we are going into Mexico with them tomorrow. Winterhaven, CA borders Yuma, AZ (the lettuce capital..(pic attd)) and Mexico. The mountain behind our RV (pic attd) is one that the Mexicans come over to try to sneak into our country. The Border Patrol is constantly patrolling the road around and the trails on the mountain (pics attd.) We can tell when they are after someone..(usually several times a day) as they go

Lettuce fields in Yuma racing down the road (a matter of feet from our RV). At night they patrol with helicopters, and their searchlights and loudspeaker go on when they find someone (very interesting!)
2/18 - Saturday
Our friends Frank and Charlene took us out sightseeing today. They have been here before, and, are in fact California natives. Our first stop was at the ‘sand dunes’…..tons of ATV’s of all sorts racing up and down the dunes….so many they looked like ants (pics attd).
Then we went to ‘Salton Sea’ which is salt water body of water completely surrounded by land and no inlet from the ocean (sure does look like the ocean though….pic attd)
Then we drove to ‘Salvation Mountain’, which is at the entrance to ‘Slab City’ in Niland, CA Leonard Knight landed there in 1985 when his balloon came down. He planned on staying only a week, but started creating Salvation Mountain and is still there. He, Leonard, insisted on giving us a personal tour through the walkway and igloo he has built. Leonard then told us we could climb the ‘yellow brick road’ on the mountain, which we all did. The only word I can used
Center of the World
This is supposed to be Gods arm pointing to the Center of the World (which is located inside the pyramid) to describe this ‘work still in progress’ is magnificent! I took too many pictures to post (it is truly unbelievable), but have posted a few so that you can get the idea.
2/19 - Sunday
Jim and I rode our bicycles to the American Canal at the Mexican border today. It is only a mile or so from where our RV is parked. I have posted a couple of pictures. On the way back, we passed a canyon, so we left our bikes at the top and climbed down into the canyon, hoping to find some animal life specific to the area (snakes, scorpions, spiders etc). Although we had been told that there are scorpions down there……we saw nothing…..just a little lizard about 6” long, sunning himself on a rock!
2/20 - Monday
Our neighbors, Marsha (my internet connection) & Larry left this morning for Arizona. So I am again without the internet. We (and our friends) Frank & Charlene are moving on Wednesday, to a nearby RV resort, so that we can ‘flush out’ our systems, fill up with water and have the luxury of ‘plugging in’ and having unlimited power for a few days.
Eiffel Tower Stairs
This is a portion of the original stairs to the Eiffel tower! This exhibit is located at the Center of the World We will only stay ‘til Saturday, then we (at least Jim & I) will be heading back to Arizona and possibly Mexico. It’s very possible that we may ‘catch up’ with Marsha & Larry along the way.
I will sign off for now……do not know when I will have internet service again…..
