Prayer Idols
I'm not sure what these were for, but there were hundreds of them. So far my stay in Tokyo has been pretty amazing. The JET panels have been very informative for all the new people coming in and here's been lots of time at night to explore the city. I managed to meet up with a girl going to my prefecture yesterday and we decided to take a couple hours and go see Tokyo Tour. Considering it was my first time riding the Japanese rail system it was actually pretty painless. Thankfully we were going at an off-peak hour so there was none of that crazy sardine can subway riding you see videos of on YouTube. We did see a kid wearing a trucker hat with the logo 'Ladies Ride Free' that we couldn't stop laughing at hahaha I have a feeling I'm going to be seeing a lot of those around here.
Anyway, so Tokyo Tower was very cool. Carlie and I managed to not only see a monkey show, but also go on a 'purikura' adventure which roughly translates to 'Picture Club' (I think). Basically it's the coolest photo booth you've ever seen. If I can scan a copy of the pics and put them up later I will. They're pretty
hilarious hahaha
Last night was Mie's prefectural night out so after all the sessions and the dinner were over we headed on over to the karaoke bar down the street. It was all you can drink/sing karaoke for 2 hours for only 3000 yen each ($30) so that wasn't bad at all! It was nice to hang out with people in my area for a change - they seem like a pretty interesting bunch.
I've also tried experimenting with a few different foods I've found here with some mild success. I wound up discovering this delicious pancake dessert at the conbini (corner store) that has flavoured whip cream in the middle. It's deeeelicous! That was about it though... I tried some little fish like the ones I had in Scotland at the pub and they were... not so awesome. And I thought I'd get an umeboshi (pickle plum) since they're pretty popular here. I got through one bite...and that was it. Definitely not for me!
Anyway, looking forward to getting in some more sessions and sight seeing today. Will be meeting up with some more people later tonight for karaoke fun times and then it's off to
Zojo Ji Temple
I believe this is a Buddhist Temple. They have New Years celebrations here every year. Mie and Home Sweet Home tomorrow. Yay!
Later guys!
