Sadly for Rachel not the one we went on
So we packed up an left our villa in Cairns, and went to the airport, arriving a bit later than intended but still in enough time to get on the plane.

It was a 3 hour flight from Cairns to Alice Springs. We got some good views of the reef as we took off and circled over the sea. Then inland over a very empty country with dry river beds and other things visible.

Then we came into land at what looked like a vaguely fenced cattle ranch, but turned out to be the airport. Its also about 17 km outside Alice Springs which is one reason it looked a little sparse. We got a taxi to our hotel and checked in, and got some food at the hotel restaurant. We also had a walk around Alice Springs, managing to listen in to a didgeridoo workshop and see a little of the centre, which is much like any other town.

We knew the next morning was an early start, as we were being picked up at 6:00 am. Still - its just one day, but Cath had to work out what to pack as we were meant to be travelling light. In the end we took a couple of rucksacks and a small case with changes of clothes and other essentials, including some bottles of water.

Luckily we had bought some cereal bars because we knew breakfast was unlikely at that hour. So with everything crammed in we had an early night to prepare for the next days adventures.
