The next day I traveled down on the train to Bath (no problems at all, Ihad booked my ticket in Australia, courtesy of Anne’s wise counsel) I got a great seat and was able to see the countryside in comfort. These fast trains are great, it makes train travel so comfortable.
I was met at the station by Anne, Solomon and Amaya. I last saw Solomon when he was only a few months old, he is now a definite boy and so into Spiderman! Amaya is gorgeous, and such a happy little girl - with such a cute personality, and definitely knows exactly what she wants.
On Saturday, we went down to Bradford-on-Avon and saw the quaint little village and had a picnic lunch in the park. I took a photo of the oldest house in the area. Then we drove around Bath and saw the royal crescent built in 1767 by John Wood. It is featured in any period type movie and is the place they all went for summer holidays and also the Circus which is similar and has the same diameter as Stone Henge. On Sunday, we went for a drive in the countryside around Bath
and had lunch in a quaint little pub where the food was great, followed by a walk along the canals and looked at the narrow boats. This would be a good way to pass the summer holidays!
That night Anne and I went to the Bath Spa, and had two hours relaxing in the various pools (rooftop to see the sun go down) and steam rooms - very cleansing and exhausting, but not something I could sleep after! (Dammn, I did not run into Kevin McLeod of ‘Grand Designs’). On Monday, Anne took me on a wander around the Bath countryside to immerse me in country life.
On Tuesday, I went into the centre of Bath on my way back to London and visited the historic Bath Abby. Bath began to develop as a spa with the romans in 60ad and bath Abby began in 757 when monks were granted land in bath it was ruined in 1499 and restored in 1611. I visited the town centre and the Roman Baths before heading back to London to spend another few days with friends Philip and Gary and their friend Martin, good fun, good food. We went to
the Whitechapel Gallery’s summer exhibition and the next morning headed off to Vienna.
