Things that make me smile...

There are a few things going on here and there that I though you might want to know about. Even if you don't want to know, I don't care. I'm excited and I'm going to tell you anyway. 😊

First off, I am no longer the only Ohioan in the English village. Moreover, I'm not the only Miamian. That's right, we got a new kid in town and he knows the people I know and we went to school in the same buildings and with the same professors - on the other side of the world. I'm really excited to know someone here whose acquaintance I've made before. He even is good buddies with Spencer! So, I'm sure there will be Ohioan antics to come. More on that later.

Second, I got my first mail today. I felt like the coolest person ever and I may or may not have skipped on my way to pick it up. I got a letter from Aunt Jo and Uncle Dick as well as a lovely card from Grandma Jan. Please know that they are well-timed and much appreciated. YAY!!! It feels good to have tangible contact from home. (Jan, I'm adding things up and estimating that your mail took 2 weeks to arrive.)

I am a house leader for VIP, but that doesn't really mean much. I help choose our name and theme, but there are really about 6 of us doing the work. It's nice because that means that we have 6 heads working together to come up with really cool things for the kids in our house to do during VIP. I'm working with amazing people, too! I feel really lucky.

Monsoon season is coming on fast I think. It spent a solid 16 or so hours raining yesterday and according to weather reports, there is plenty more where that came from. I don't mind it, though. I love the rain. It's soothing. That, and I love splashing in the puddles. Sometimes I wonder if me teaching these middle school kids is too similar to the blind leading the blind - the immature teaching the immature? But hey, it's summer camp. They should have fun, right? And I'm teaching them vital English skills - "puddle," for example. And "raisin fingers." And cute colloquialisms like "soaked to the skin" and "Cut it out, Head Teachers are coming." Invaluable, really.

I also figured out how to set up my bank account online and link it to my home accounts so that I can transfer funds between the two for cheap - about 5,000 won per transfer. I don't think there are any receiving fees, either. Good stuff. So that should be happening prior to my next absurd loan payment due date. Woot?

I'm going to the Mud Festival this weekend with a few friends. It should be interesting. And amazing. I fully plan on being coated head-to-toe in mud. I'll try to get some pictures taken so that I can post them and you can laugh at how silly I look in brown.

OH! I almost forgot the single most important thing - I managed to bake about 6 dozen of the most amazing peanut butter cookies ever. I'm not trying to be cocky or anything. I'm just saying that they were good enough to make a grown man cry into his glass of milk. And I made them in what amounts to a biggish toaster oven. How, you ask? Because I'm a baking ninja. And ninjas don't share secrets.

I love you (ㅅㅏ 라ㅇ 해ㅛ),

Meg

Now that I know a thing or two more about Korean, the proper "spelling" is (사 랑 해 요). Much more compact. :D
