Caroline coming back with arm fulls of booty that another camper left behind

DAY 247

Saturday morning and it’s a day for a lie in, ok so everyday is a lie in at the moment but who’s counting? We are on holiday after all and I am sure it won’t be too long before we rejoin the merry go round and get back to work, when I say too long, a few months maybe.

Andy was trying to have a shower this morning, but the cubicles were continually busy, there are only 3 shower cubicles at this end of the park, that is to say 3 each in the men’s and 3 each in the ladies, every time he tried they were busy.

The second time he came back to wait, he was carrying armfuls of stuff and a small grin. I said, “you were quick, you haven’t showered already? Where did you get that stuff?” Andy explained that another camper had left a box in the laundry with a label on it saying “Free stuff, help yourself” so he did. Amazingly there was a fairly new Esky (probably 3 litre) a litre of milk (long life) a box of teabags and some muesli bars.

It would appear that one of our fellow campers must be going home today and cannot take all of this stuff with them, you do expect some people to leave some unfinished food, but to leave an Esky is great, I would have found the space somewhere in my case to pack it, even if I had to shove socks into it.

Andy said I should go and have a look, this is most unlike me as I would not normally do something like this but nothing ventured nothing gained, so off I went to the laundry, there were already to men there rifling through the box, word obviously had not travelled that much as yet, there was still plenty to be had, unfortunately one of the guys had picked up an unopened roll of aluminium foil.

I had a rummage and picked up two loo rolls, a citronella candle, box of tissues and another litre of milk. I only took the milk, as it was unopened, the other foodstuffs that were left were already open so I did not fancy taking any of that being uncertain of the source.

I reappeared back at camp and Andy was sat there grinning at me, I think we were both pleased with our little collection of goodies today, it is not often that something like that happens.

An hour later when I wandered past there was nothing left.

We popped out to Bunnings to get a replacement container for our kitchen stuff, the old one is breaking up, I think with the usage, the battering it has taken in the trailer and of course the sunshine has probably made it brittle which is why it is breaking up so easily.

While in town we post some mail, pop into Coles as Andy needs new flip flops and as he is refusing to pay the extortionate $20 for a branded pair he pays only about $2.50 for a cheap pair which lasts him about the same amount of time, amazingly he bought 2 pairs, not even I have two pairs of flip flops.

Back at camp and after lunch we sit around and relax for the afternoon, I seem to have taken to crosswords and Sudoku, I cannot seem to get me head out of them at the moment, any opportunity and I will sit and do them, I think I am needing the mental challenge as I have not got my head stuck in spreadsheets all day the Sudoku is helping me cope.

I watch the White Ibis wandering around, they cannot help but look so guilty when they catch you looking at them, they just casually stroll into camp, have a good nose around often poking their long beaks into an open container or the washing up bowl and when they see you looking they do a quick sidestep, their long beaks go back up in the air and they wander off as if to say “who me?”

We were doing some blog work when we saw our dear friends Gary and (Karen, AKA) Pikey) Barber on line so we gave them a Skype call, it was fab they are such dear friends of ours and we do miss them so much. It was with Gary and Karen that we came to Australia in 2007, and had our first taste of this huge country.

We spend 45 minutes on line with Gary and Karen (of course on Skype this is absolutely free, apart from your internet usage), they tell us that they are going camping down in the Hampshire Outback at Hollands Wood next weekend, with some friends and they will be using our old tent!

The call is signed off we are so happy to have had an excellent catch up with our friends they had told us that everyday, when they get in from work they always put the PC on and read the blog, just to update them selves with it (we love you guys).

After a light dinner we are ready to go to the Cinema as we had complimentary tickets to go, the film is Year One with Jack Black and we are looking forward to a cheap night out, this will make up for the Boy in Striped Pyjamas being ruined right at the end of the film last week, although these films are not even in the same league.

The evening turned out to be quite humid again, but as we were going to be in an air-conditioned cinema it did not matter too much.

We sat and watched the trailers for up coming movies, we both seem to have a growing list of what films we want to come and see, we won’t have enough time in Darwin to see them all though. I would love to spend a week catching up on all the good films that we have missed. I expect when we go next week there will be some new films advertised and thus even more to add to the list.

During the trailers, the cinema started to get busy, it was by no means full and it looked as if it was the smallest cinema in the complex, this film will come off next week to make way for the new ones, I think the new Harry Potter is on, Andy is not so keen but I would like to see it, I missed the last Harry Potter.

Andy said the film was excellent, he chuckled all the way through it, for me it was an ok film, not particularly my cup of tea, but it was entertaining.

We got back to camp at about 11.30 and jumped straight in to bed, we were both tired with such a late night.

Back to the real world
Hi KJs, Jode and the kids have gone off to work and school, I am waiting for frames to be delivered to start my next house so I need to find a little bit of work for a week or so to get me off my backside. Hard to get motivated in this cold plus I need a bit of chill time for myself after all the driving and we haven't stopped since we got back emptying the car and van cleaning them out and washing them. Josh was back playing footy on Saturday but Kahl's was told she would not get a game this year by the coach because they have nine players. She was mortified. my little girl was hurting badly and I wanted blood, it took every bit of strenght to calm my self and talk to the coach with out going off my nut (after everything Jode and I have done for that club) any way we've been thrown strait back in the thick of it. seeing some of your photos of places we've been takes you straight back there. Keep having fun.Miss you Guys. Love Ken and the TTs

Work & Footy
Hi Ken and the TT's, thanks for your lovely message, we have been thinking of you today, knowing that it is all about getting back to normality. Motivation is hard after a trip of of this nature, but I am sure once work is started the trip becomes a distant memory too soon, but for us, we carry on at the moment. Sorry to hear about Kahls and the footy, hope things get sorted. We have been busy cleaning the tent and the truck, also sorting out our gear, and getting reorganised for when we hit the road again. I hate to rub it in but boy its hot up here, phew! There is a black cloud overhead though, but for Northern Territory people they seem to think that does not mean they will get rain. We could live in hope, a downpour would be great to cool things down and of course wash the dust and the bird poo off the tent! Miss you guys, Love KJ

Prom Pictures
Hi Steve, thanks for Laura's prom photos, she looked fabulous. We are enjoying being able to go to the cinema, we have not seen the two films you mention, we may have to see those on DVD when we get chance. Hpe to see "My Sisters Keeper" before we leave Darwin, that is a weepy. Sunshine Cleaning also looks quite good, I think that is what we hope to see later this week. x C
