Over the Rivers and Through the Woods

This is the first chance I've had to blog since being at Deanna's. So, Ill try to keep it brief.

Thursday, we left Deanna's in Fairfax and headed north toward Dulles Airport, then west to I-81. Not the straightest route, but we decided to go that way in order to pass through West Virginia and Maryland on the way to Pennsylvania, giving Ethan 3 new states to add to his list of states he has visited. We stopped for the night at Caledonia State Park near Fayetteville, PA, a beautiful park in the forest, of course, with really nice facilities. We even went to their ampitheater after supper to see a film about the Battle of Antietam.

The next morning, Friday 3 July, we headed east to Gettysburg, PA, and the battlefields etc there. Being a bit rusty on our history and civil war data, we were shocked to find the borough of Gettysburg, the cemetaries, battlefields, visitor center, everywhere packed with people. Apparently the first few days of July happen to be the days the battle took place. We couldn't find a parking space anywhere, so I jumped out of the car and rushed into the visitor center for my stamp and patch, and we headed north. Didn't even get to take the first picture at Gettysburg. We headed to Stroudsburg near the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. We stayed at a really crowded campground, but it was okay.

On Saturday, we headed north on Rte. 209 along the Delaware River through the Natl Rec Area to Dingmans Falls Visitor Center, where they have a nice boardwalk leading to two waterfalls, Silverthread Falls and Dingmans Falls. From Milford, at the north end of the DWGNRA, we got on I-84 and headed east through New York to Danbury, CT. From Danbury we took scenic Rte 7 north to Great Barrington, MA, then west into NY again and Fox Hill Campground at Spencertown, NY. Nice campground and they had fireworks that night for the 4th of July.

Here we go, almost caught up now. We drove north in New York then east to Bennington, VT. We took Route 7 across the southern part of Vermont, a beautiful drive to Brattleboro, VT. Then to Keene, NH, where we bought a few groceries and headed to Concord, then to Epsom, NH. A beautiful day full of the glories of New England vistas.

we've been there too!
I recognized the picture of the covered bridge in Vermont, as John and I were in that area three years ago in October. I loved the New England area. Trips sounds like SO much fun.

Glad to hear from you. Were wondering where you were celebrating the 4th. It poured here SAT nite, so no fireworks to be seen. Once again, you have been seeing some spectacular vistas and great works of nature! Have lots of fun! LUV U!
