The rewards of the journey far outweigh the risk of leaving the harbor.
June 19, 2009, Friday, Helsinki, Finland. The Midsummer’s Night Festival is a big deal celebration of the longest day of the year. Long days of Finnish summers are quite a contrast to the two months of “polar nights” found during winter. The latitude here in Helsinki is about that of Nome, Alaska, so winters are dark and hard to take. Stores close down at noon Friday and remain closed Saturday and Sunday. Everyone heads to the country… to their cottage, bungalow, whatever.
The Money in Finland is the Euro and things keep going up and up in cost. As we travel north and west, we expect in Sweden, Norway and Denmark to really get “sticker shock”! Things will only get more expensive as we travel in these countries, Oslo has the reputation of being the most expensive city in Europe!!
It is a cold rainy day and Bob is downtown, Maureen is still taking it easy for a while.

Looks like Lupine to me- I would love to see such fields. I get sticker shock just reading your posts. What a long ferry ride. I was in shock when we paid $40 to take the ferry from Conn. to Long Island. many years ago. I am still getting over my double knee transplant- I should be hiking next summer. Love, d
