The Netherlands was a quick hop from Edinburgh and so off we went. You hear all the stories about Amsterdam so it was up to us to confirm whether or not they were true.

We decided not to stay in the city center but to try out some of the neighborhoods around it. Our first place was a really nice apartment which sounds like an odd thing to get excited about. After living in just one room (bungalow, hotel or guesthouse) for the past year this was great. It had a kitchen and we cooked every meal in it. Our next pad was “Mod”. Our room had pods, one contained the shower and the other contained the toilet. You could set the lights (different colors and areas) and music, with a touch pad, to change with your mood. The place was really cool with crazy art and furniture throughout the building. There was no front desk, so no check-in or check-out, computers everywhere, touch keys for the doors and oddly dressed staff hanging around. These were completely different places than we had stayed on our trip.

We did absolutely nothing but walk the streets, cross the canals and sit in parks. The plan was to take our time and we did just that. It took us until day two to actually make it into the city. There are more coffee shops than there are bars so we got lost more than a few times. The red light district was pretty cool with actual red lights showing the way. The ladies in the windows were not always what you might expect but I guess that just means there really is someone for everyone.

We had a good time in the neighborhoods, especially the parks. We went everyday and took lunches for our picnics. We actually spent more time in the parks than in the city center. There are more bicycles here than you can imagine, this was great considering it meant less cars. This place should be on everyone’s list, it is beautiful and so are the people.

We didn’t do anything here but we had a good time doing it.

Oh yeah by the way, all the stories are true…
