Tamarindo

On arrival in Costa Rica we travelled to the nearest town of any size, and found ourselves in rainy Liberia. The hostel that we stayed in was apparently the only tourist information in the town and the owner was particularly knowledgable and helpful according to the guidebook. When we asked him for advice on where to go he told us to rent a 4x4 and go anywhere that was not in the guidebook. Great advice. So the following day we followed our original plan and went to Tamarindo.

The hostel we stayed in was La Botella De Leche which was where Laura had stayed when she came to Tamarindo 5 years ago. It had changed premises but was still owned by the same Argentinian lady, whose sons ran surf lessons on the beach.

In Tamarindo we spent a few days lazing on the beach and Kirstine got very burnt, but it was a very relaxing place. La Botella De Leche was very sociable and friendly, so the 3 nights that we were planning on staying quickly changed to 4 nights to include Kirstines birthday, and then again changed to 5 nights due to hangovers from Kirstines birthday!

The birthday started with the grand plan of cooking dinner and sharing our first bottle of wine since we started the trip. Clearly the excitment was too much because we quickly had to head to the supermarket for another bottle. Our attempt to drink then go to bed also failed (miserably) and the French-Canadian girls we were sharing a dorm with soon persuaded us to head to Pacifico where Laura continued to drink and Kirstine dropped several beers on the floor and one all down herself. Classy! In her drunken state she danced Ceroc perfectly with a random as Laura fought with an Israeli who asked her to dance, then told her she was too drunk to dance well. Laura agreed and ran behind Juan, the hostel owners son, to hide. After a couple of hours it was clear that we were all too drunk to stay out, especially as Kirstine still had beer all down her front so we wobbled back to the hostel. The next day pretty much everyone managed to get up and leave except us, who stayed in bed until 12pm.

I´ve been trying to explain to Kirstine that there are certain situations that don´t come across very well on a travel blog, for me it has to be my moment of toilet clarity! Five years after visiting Tamarindo for the first time, Kirstine and I (2 bottles of wine later) visited club Pacifico, it wasn´t until I sat on the toilet that I thought "hold on a minute... I think I´ve been here before" and I had. I could´t actually remember the place, probably because I had been too drunk the first few times until I visited the toilet, which was pretty much the same as before and then the memories all came flooding back to me. Thankfully I was equally as drunk this time so I finished what I was doing and went back to find Kirstine who was also far too drunk at that point to appreciate my moment of toilet clarity.
