To Bergama

Today was all excitement. We had a glass of tea at the tea garden then headed for the bike to discover we had a flat front tyre. There was a wedding last night and we guess it was some kind of high jinx. The empty panniers were also opened. Some men came by with a hand pump and the tyre has stayed inflated. The first part of the road was as hairy on the way back as it was on the way out. Then we got a smooth run. After stopping at Behramkale / Assos for a quick take in of the view we found the old coast road beyond Ayvacic, which is attractive although in places all you have to your right is a short vertical drop to the sea. We found a place serving breakfast (there were a lot of beachside cafes but it's hard to see which are open before you pass them. We struck it lucky in that the place we found had wonderful views and a very good breakfast of olives, bread, salad, cheese and honey and tea was served.

We have, by the way, had NO coffee today. NO coffee at all!

Back on the highway then went through several little towns which have been somewhat overdeveloped with yazlik (summer vllas). Traffic jams. And roadworks with tar and loose grit. Past Edremit it opened out and got pretty with nothing but olive groves and mountain views. Somewhere on the highway a bee flew into Ashley's jacket sleeve and stung him. I think I got the sting out.

Bergama is a biggish working town. It took a while to locate a hotel during which time the bike attracted a lot of attention. Someone gave us a map. We are staying in the Acropolis hotel which is lovely. It has a little garden and a cool pool (which we have been in already). We have taken photographs.
