Deaf unit
Maagdi and Emel On arriving in Egypt i was taken by John to the cathedral to drop off my bags. Then John said we were going to the deaf unit where i will be doing the dreaded fence. All i wanted to do was go to sleep after such a long flight but John had other ideas for me. So me and John caught the metro down to old Cairo where the deaf unit is. At the unit i met the manager of the metal and wood working workshops his name is Asaam very nice chap then i met Claire she is the boss of the unit. She had heard about me coming to work there and and wants me to stay on after the fence is finished and teach the metal work guys how to weld and to teach them safety in the work place. When i started working there properly i got to meet the guys and girls that work there the first two guys i met were Magdi and Emel they are really nice gradually i met them all and they are all nice and funny too. I had to half pie learn to do sign language it was so funny trying

Working in the wood shop to figure out what they were saying now i can sort of figure out what they are trying to tell me its so funny though. The deaf unit also has a school for deaf children too and i got to know them as well the children are so funny not a day goes by where they are not fighting in the play ground. Then to make things worse the teacher sees them fighting and goes over to them and slaps them really hard. There is also a little shop there and when it is open the children all rush to be the first in line thats always a recipe for a fight and while two or three are fighting all the others push in front of them then the teacher grabs the ones fighting and makes them stand in the playground with there hands in the air for the whole break and they miss out on any goodies from the shop. Everyone there thought i was Egyptian and couldnt understand when i told them i was from nz that was funny. Even the teachers that arent deaf kept trying to talk to me in arabic. I remember one funny event
Deaf unit3
Lunch time down there when some English people were volunteering for the day and I was sitting in the playground by myself. One of the English guys looked at me funny and tried to walk around me but I said hi. He said he was sorry he wasn't intendiing to sit by me because he had thought I was Egyptian. So even foreigners think I am Egyptian. Also at the unit there is a guy who takes lunch orders and goes and gets everyone's lunch. He is so slow that by the time he comes back everyone only has 10 minutes to eat their lunch. Sometimes I tried to order things other than sandwiches but I never get what I want so now I stick to fuul and ta'miya sandwiches. Also they all use video calling on there cell phones its so funny to watch them signing to their phones
