Having been getting up at 7 for the last few days we treated ourselves to a lie-in today. We then headed for “Cape Range” national park and to “Oyster Stacks” which we had heard so much about from our neighbour. Himself and his wife have been coming to the park we were at for the past 20 years and they just live there for four months of the year chasing the sun. Loads of people there were doing the same thing, it was kind of mental, but we were meeting some really nice people. So anyway we got to the beach and who was there but the two Joes! So we had a little catch up with them and then got in the water, the reef was about 5 metres from our towels, it was unreal and there were fish everywhere. Unfortunately after about 10 minutes I managed to get stung by a jellyfish which I was really annoyed about as I had been looking out for them; but this one (which was really tiny which also bugged me!) came up behind me. It stung my leg and when i felt the pain I stood up - the water wasn’t very deep - and in standing up he went into my back and stung that and my bum too! Not impressed! So I told Andy, who started freaking out going “OMG it might be a box jellyfish!” but it was all good as I had seen loads of them on our dives the day before so I knew they weren’t life threatening. Luckily in our medical kit we had some sting remedy so Andy put some of that on it for me and it was all good. After my brush with death (lol!) we decided to head for another beach, aptly named “Turquoise Beach” (or Turkey beach as one of the Joes was calling it). It was stunning, the water was the most beautiful shade of blue (uh....turquoise....) and it had lovely golden sands so we pitched up there for the day. I couldn’t swim again because of my sting but i just sunbathed and read my book and we had a really relaxing day. On the way home, as we were driving back through the National Park, I saw my first ‘in the wild and alive’ Kangaroo! Was wicked! We were driving along and the car in front slowed down so we did too and there on the side of the road was Skippy and he just waited for us to drive pass and then he just crossed over! I was super excited! That evening we met everyone on the dive course at the pub for a couple of drinks...well it was supposed to be a couple! We had a really good night and stumbled home after closing and hit the hay. Yesterday was Andy’s birthday and he wanted to head down to the beach again so that is what we did and just ate lunch on the beach and read and swam and took in the scenery. Driving home again we were on the look out for kangaroos as they are more likely to be seen around dusk and dawn and also we had spoken to people who had run them over and we didn’t want to do that - apparently if you hit one it is almost guaranteed that your car will be a write off. Anyway so we are driving along and one just kamikazed himself into us! Andrew saw it just seconds after me once I started shouting “STOP! STOP! OMG!” and it is probably a good thing it happened like that because the roo went bang into the side of us but if Andy had seen him sooner he would have braked sooner and we might have had a head on as such. It was the most almighty bang and I was sure the car was destroyed. The suicidal kangaroo was fine (we think) and it just hopped back into the bush (I promise I’m not lying Becca, I’m sure he is fine! You don’t have to set Greenpeace on us! :P) For some reason Andy had turned the car off (we didn’t realise this at the time) so obviously it started to slow down and then we really started to panic. We got out and had a look at the car and there is a bit of a dent in it and a bit of fur - he really did come at us at speed! Some French people stopped to ask if we were ok proclaiming that kangas are “very stupid animals” and then the two of us drove home in shock occasionally saying “I can’t believe we hit a kangaroo!” As it was Andy’s birthday we decided to eat out so we had a nice meal in the Pot Shop and then headed back to bed knowing we would be back on the road again the next morning. So today we got up and headed for Darwin. The first major town will be a place called Broome so we are aiming for there at the moment and will chill there for a few days. Today we got as far as Karratha, sorted out some of our laundry, ate and are going to watch a move and go to sleep. The weather is unbelievable hot here. It has been over 26 since we arrived but the further north we go the hotter it gets, eventually hitting the 29/30 in Exmouth and here it is at least 32 - i think we might physically melt away in Darwin - we shall see!
