Dear all,
Dan and I arrived safely in LA 3 hours before we left. We picked up our hire car which only had 56 miles on the clock and then managed to drive to our hotel without getting lost. If you saw the roads around here you would know that not getting lost is a huge achievement each time we go out!
On our first evening we drove into the Mexican area of LA and had some Mexican food. This was not planned, we just found it when driving but as we are no longer going to Mexico it felt like a good second best!
Yesterday we got up at six and drove to San Diego for SeaWorld. As you can imagine we felt right at home there the only problem being that we were on top of the water and not under it. We saw sharks, turtles, beluga whales, tropical fish, seals, sea lions and fresh water fish but my absolute favourite was the killer whales. We watched the show and the way that the trainers and the whales interacted was amazing. Neither Dan nor I left the show with dry eyes! (its a diver thing!)
I will
admit that seeing the killer whales was special but we also had some sadness when we saw them. I have never been lucky enough to see a killer whale when diving although they were around in Indonesia when we were there and we thought that we heard them. They are huge creatures and they look as though they enjoy doing what they do...but the only reason that they do it is because they get a big fish for it! The pool that they live in is quite big but it will never be as good as the ocean! SeaWorld do have a breeding program and have been successful but seeing as killer whales are not an endangered species I can't see that as an excuse for having them in captivity. (ok - lecture finished)
We had a great day but were shattered after walking around the park for nine hours. We drove home and quickly fell asleep knowing that today we had to get up and do the same thing again...except that today it was Universal Studios.
Universal was good, it was very interesting seeing how films are made and seeing around some of the sets. So far
though I have to name SeaWorld as my favourite. Tomorrow we are having a less crazy day, we might get up a bit later and do a bit of shopping. That way we will be well rested for our day at Disneyland! I am so excited! (Yes it is childish but I have always wanted to go there!)
As for being in The United States...well I have to admit that we both really like it here. Neither of us enjoyed New York when we were last there and Vegas was a strange place but here it is quite nice! (Yes Adam that is me admitting that you are right and that there are actually some nice places here!!)
Right got to go, we are off to relax our tired feet!
Love to you all
Wendy
