Sunday - HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
Today we spent a relaxing day in Brugge - we thought we would see what the town of Brugge looks like on a summer (early) weekend. We headed off to church and came upon St. Salvator cathedral as the bells were ringing and all the people were filing in for mass. So we joined them. The organ music was great - and some of the traditions of the parts of the mass were different, but we understood and was great! They even gave out a printed English version of the homily!

Then we explored the city by foot, and enjoyed walking up and down the tiny alleys and along the canals, discovering places we had been before and some new places as well. Brugge is a beautiful city - and the marching band that included players of all ages was a delight. Jean thinks there was a female trumpet player that only marched without blowing her trumpet, but was fun to watch them and the music was great!

Jean and I both missed our kiddo's and grandkids this Mother's Day! Love to all ~

I NEED SOME ADVICE
My wife and I will be visiting Brugges and Paris mid July. We are arriving by plane in Brussells, staying in the North end of Brugges for three nights, taking a train to Paris for two nights, staying in a hotel at the Brussells airport one night and leaving early the next day for home. Any advice on the train trips? Also, If I take two day trips from Brugges, which should I do, Brussells, Gent, Antwerp, Ostende, or some other place?

My opinion only
I would at least spend one full day in Brugge, I like it as a city the best of Brussels, Antwerp, Gent and Ostende. Ostende is a great half day trip to the sea (only about a 20 minute train ride), Antwerp is large (500k people I think) and the same 90 min train from Brugge as is Brussels. Personally I like Gent also - the town is about a 30 walk from the train station, but a great walk to the center with parks to walk along - it is considerably smaller than that Brussels and Antwerp. So depends if you like big cities or small towns. I thought The Mystic Lamb by the Van Eyck brothers at St Baafs was worth going to Gent for. Have a great time!
