Day 87 Coffs Harbour

Another sunny morning so we enjoyed a walk to the nearby headland at Emerald Beach. The ground was very wet, the wind very gusty but the waves were quite spectacular, definitely not a time and place for surfing here.

Coffs Harbour is a popular holiday destination so we went to have a look why. It has a pretty harbour and great bays for the surfers to catch some waves. We have a walk along the headland by the harbour which turns out to be a wildlife walk where many birds nest. After cooking lunch we travel for about 2 hours south to Port Macquaire and arrived in time to enjoy the late afternoon sunshine on the beach.

We enjoyed an evening stroll along the river, which felt quite refreshing as we don't normally go out at night in case we get bitten to death (we are still recovering from bites we got near Townsville 2 weeks ago!). It was only 6pm but it was dark, however there were still people fishing, running and walking. The town was still awake as it was late night shopping so we had a quick walk through the modern shopping centre before returning back to the van.

Day 88 Forster-Tuncurry

It was a glorious morning so we visited some beaches and watched the many surfers and body boarders before getting back onto the Pacific Highway. We travelled further south and arrived in Forster late morning. We had hoped to spend the afternoon on the beach here but it was cloudy so we made do with a walk along the harbour wall and the beach front.

Even though it is Autumn there were many families enjoying the end of the school holidays on the beach, in the lagoon and on their pleasure boats. These towns must be bustling in the summer months.
