As usual the 3 of us (Jerri, Jennifer and myself) were trying to cram 10 lbs of sightseeing into a 5 lb day! But there's so much to do and so little time on this island! We had our driver pick us up early to get a start on the day since we needed to drive an hour north of Ubud to get to the Gitgit Waterfalls. Its the only twin waterfall in all of Indonesia. Besides the 22M Twin waterfalls, there's the cascading waterfalls as well as the massive 60M waterfall to hike to. We hired one of the local guides to get us to each of the waterfalls (excluding the massive waterfall). We did lots of going up and down steps that day! The Twin waterfalls are hidden behind the first waterfall so we were glad we hired a guide. Along the way he pointed out coffee trees, clove trees as well as lemongrass. The thundering sound of the waterfall drew us back into the cave like area. Jennifer was the first one to decide to get in and swim even though it was pretty chilly! The waterfall is spring fed and so the water was cold! Of course
I was the one to discover the rope that was off to the side so I grabbed it and jumped in! The others followed suit until Jennifer decided to be Tarzan and swung out over the water but then ended up swinging back towards me...I'm standing on a slippery rock and I'm thinking that this isn't going to end well! I was able to put my hands out to push her slightly back towards the water without losing my footing. Whew! Me and my tailbone were spared any slight mishaps with the rock below me! After the Twin waterfalls we hiked to the cascading waterfalls which were beautiful to see as well. Then we took the "short" cut back to the van stopping along the way to our guide's mother's shop so we could buy a few trinkets before leaving. There was a little girl selling seashell necklaces (that's my next career but I'm going to sell them by the "seashore"). I bought one for Sophie and took her picture. She was wearing a Dora shirt. Too bad I didn't have a Disney Princess shirt to let her wear instead.
Back in the van, we decide that we were going
to skip seeing the Botanical gardens as we had just seen some beautiful scenery and not to mention we needed to stop at a temple all before lunch. We stocf course there were shops to stop at as well. Jennifer was looking for a Bintang trucker hat but no luck. Then it was onto lunch to a restaurant that overlooked some ricefields. View was spectacular, food very average.
On the ride home, Jerri was worried about getting to an ATM machine so that she could contribute to paying for our driver. Our driver in the meantime knew how interested we were in the different temples along the way. At one point he slowed down and tried to point out a temple to us. Jerri proceeds to say "ATM, where's the ATM?" When we all realized that it was only another temple and not an ATM we just waved him on. We'd had enough temples for the day. We all got a really good laugh out of that!
