So yet another boat and we were in Penang (Again!) This time we stayed at a really sweet hotel where we seemed to be the only guests and set about taking advantage of the pool while we waited for Jim to do our visa’s for us! Jim was an absolute legend, Tel took him our passports on the Sunday morning and by Tuesday afternoon we had our lovely 60 Thai visa’s in our sweaty little palms and it only cost us £4! As luck would have it the races were on in Penang on the Sunday so we had a wicked day out and Tel got to see what Malaysian racing was all about! We were only allowed in the cheap seats due to our lack of appropriate footwear but it was wicked fun watching all the Chinese go mad at the races in Hong Kong on the Telly! We spent Monday exploring Penang and discovered it was a lot better than our previous visit had lead us to believe, the food was pretty amazing!
So as soon as ‘Jim had fixed it for us’ we left on the first boat and headed back to Langkawi (Again!!) and then within a few hours we were back in Koh Lipe! We spent 5 days back at Jacks Jungle sunbathing and generally soaking up the atmosphere while we planned our next move! Lipe is a very beautiful small island but even in the week we had been gone there had been a lot of construction on the island as it was coming up to the end of season and it was very sad to see somewhere so beautiful being destroyed and over developed! We went out on a snorkelling/fishing trip on the last day with a German couple but the snorkelling wasn’t that great in comparison to the Perhentians and as we were due to come back to the island the engine on our long tail boat broke, we were sat bobbing in the middle of the sea while the two chow leh boat guys totally stripped the engine and prop shaft and eventually managed to get it started after the sun had set!! It was a long two hours and I was still swaying the next morning! !!! I have managed to overcome my hatred of boats though thank goodness, not a lot of choice to be honest out here!!
A small aside, a guy that was on the trip came from Solihull and his dad was born and still lived in Woodthorne road - How weird!!!
From Lipe we decided to get a boat and bus to Trang and then figure out our next destination after a night in Trang.
