We finished our time on Au Nang with Chloe with one last night out … more buckets, and lots of rain that night that kept us in one bar for several hours and then a run to a tuk tuk to the local dodgy nightclub! At least Chloe got to dance - but Tanya didn’t last very long and we left Chloe to it…. Pilch singing along with the tuk tuk driver all the way home in the rain!
We spent the following morning hungover on the beach getting our last rays before saying goodbye to Chloe and getting a minibus to Lanta. This involved two ferry crossings whilst on the minibus - we both noted we were seasoned travelers as we stayed in the bus rather than sit outside for photo moments and the view - or maybe we were just too tired and lazy!!
We got sold a room at the minibus station which we have always avoided due to it normally resulting in paying way too much for a rubbish room - however we ended up in a nice place called Lantawadee with the full works of cable TV and air conditioning AND an outside bathroom… scary at
first but it was awesome having morning showers with the view of the trees etc around! Not so great at night time brushing your teeth with buzzy things everywhere and there were a lot! Falling asleep at Lantawadee was to the sound of many insects, frogs and lizards - they would all start up at exactly the same time each night and then slowly morph into bird sounds as the sun rose.
How do we know this when we should be in bed? Well first night there Pilch awoke at 4.30am and lay outside our hut in the hammock until light began to break, he then wandered down the beach and took some great photos of the sunrise.
We became regulars at the local bar Klappa Klum who put on a fire show every night and let Tanya have a go. We became known by the drinks we ordered so they would shout “White Russian and I don’t Know” when we walked in - thought the drinks were quite appropriate for us really if you can figure out who ordered what!!
We took a day trip to Phi Phi so that Pilch could see the island as it is so
famous and it was only an hours boat ride away! Unfortunately it was raining when we got there in the morning and so we wandered the streets for a bit looking for a café for some hot drinks - then ended up having brunch (stuffed by 10am!)! Most of the shops and stuff weren’t really open and coz of the weather it wasn’t worth a longtail boat over to Maya Bay (“the beach” from the film). So Tanya took Pilch to a little bay she remembered from her previous trip there and by the time they got there the weather was much better and we were able to a least sunbathe and enjoy the beauty of Phi Phi! Our boat back to Lanta was at 3pm and the day went really fast - we did some last minute shopping and then were off back to Lanta.
Once back on the island we booked to move on the next day to Koh Lipe - choice of 5hours on big ferry or speedboat for 3hours so we went with the luxury of the speedboat. This was a little hairy at times but definitely was worth it for the time saved and the
fun factor!
When you arrive at Koh Lipe they drop you off on a big metal floating rig from the fancy boat - then make you pay 50baht each to get in a long tail to the beach - this is really cheeky considering the speedboat is capable of mooring right up to the beach! The longtail was a bit hairy too as they put everyone from the speedboat and their luggage into one!! Another random adventure survived just a little wetter!!
Koh Lipe is absolutely gorgeous with the white sand and clear blue seas you hear about. We got a cheap and basic hut for two days and spent our time enjoying amazing sunsets on Pattaya Beach and the clear waters of Sunrise Beach.
Pilch got bored on the first night and couldn’t resist another bamboo tattoo. He got a purple spiral on his elbow and Tanya got slowly drunk waiting with a 45 year old German lady who was obsessed with bamboo tattoos - bit of a strange situation but Pilch enjoyed his tattoo and likes it.
We booked another speedboat to Langkawi (Malaysia) and left this morning. It was the simplest crossing so far - no visa
issues at all, 90 days entry stamp for free!! Yippee!! We got dropped to Pantai Cenang (local beach) - however by this time it was raining quite a lot and we ended up in a bit of a crappy room and started talking about flying out of here and going to the East Coast! However within about an hour you would not have known it had rained at all and it was a beautiful hot sunny day and our mood improved with some cocktails on the beach!!
Our plan is to move to another beach in the morning called Pantai Kok which is near to an oriental village and cable car… we will stay here a few days before heading to Penang for some yummy food and some more beaches.
Only a month left now … we both feel ready to come home then as 4 weeks travelling Malaysia feels about right. We have had our fill of living out of a small bag and moving every couple of days … missing everyone too so it will be good to catch up with you all!! Can you all pray for sunshine for our return though as I think we may
both have trouble adjusting to jumpers and socks (and pants in Pilch’s case!) and cold weather!!
Pilch is having his interview for his Plumpton tree surgery course tomorrow at 10.30pm (our time!) so its Tanya’s mission to keep him sober before he does it!!
NOTE: We can't upload photos were we are at the moment so our words will have to do until some later date.....
