Perthies
Me and the others from Perth: Kate, Adam and Caitlin :) SO. Today I was informed by my boyfriend that it's exactly a month since I last wrote in my travel blog. Oops!
I honestly have no idea where to start in telling you what I've been up to. So much has happened!
When I got back from Intro Camp I spent two weeks with the rest of the Copenhagen newbies going to language school. It was pretty fun, though I am still finding Danish very difficult. It' really frustrating. I think it's because I'm so used to being quite natural when learning a foreign language (Japanese). My teacher is really great. She's very clear in her instructions and she's also really nice - and pretty!
On our first weekend back in Copenhagen we went out. Kate and Flick (who came down from Arhus for the weekend) stayed the night at my house. It ended up being a pretty early night as we were all tired and so my second host mother - who I was staying with for the week while my first host family was in Austria - picked us up. She didn't want us catching public transport at night, into the area where she lives. It's

Isn't it pretty!? not very dangerous or anything. It's just not very well lit, and I still didn't know the city very well.
On the 26th, after language school, I went to Kates house. Kate had ridden her bike to the train station that morning, and when we got off the train it was raining, so she wanted me to dinky. Let me just tell you that Kate is really not the best bike rider under normal circumstaces, so I'm sure you can guess how that worked out. She was swerving all over the road. I thought she was doing it on purpose to scare me. She wasn't. We almost fell off quite a few times and there were all these Danish people laughing at us. But we were laughing too. In fact, I don't think I've ever lughed so hard in my life. My stomach muscles were killing me. We eventually gave up and just wheeled the bike home, but the event will probably remain a running joke all year.
Kate and I went to the Bloomsday bar that night (awesome place, really chilled atmosphere and a sort of rustic feel to it) to watch Carus play. It was really
Amalienborg Palace
With Katherine and Kate. This is the winter residence of the Royal Family. great seeing a familiar face, and I think some of his fans were a bit jealous when he sat down with his beer to chat with us... Haha. And he gave me a free t-shirt! Unfortunately we couldn't stay till the end, because we had school the next day. Still, it was fun, and Kate really liked his music; she bought his newest cd. I stayed the night at Kates house.
Then that weekend we went out with a bunch of the oldies from our district. We went to the Australia bar in Copenhagen! It was pretty cool, but not fantastically aussie. BUT you do get free entry if you have id that show's you're Australian, so that's a plus. We just danced and played pool most of the night. Kate went missing for a while, but it turned out she was just outtside getting air. We caught the night bus home together (to my house).
The next week I returned to normal school. Everyone was really interested to hear about my trip to Jutland, and they were pretty excited to hear the tiny tiny bit of Danish I'd learnt. I feel like I'm making friends! There are
two girls who I sit with in all of my classes - Matilde and Sarah. They are very very friendly. Though, to be honest, everyone in my class is. They don't mind helping me when I'm really stumped by the Danish, and in turn I help them with their English and - will wonders never cease - with their maths. The maths is like the stuff I was doing in year 11. The funny thing about that is I never really got it at school (hence me dropping it in year 12), and now I get it perfectly, even though it's being taught in Danish!
I also hang out with a girl called Reshwan and a guy called Michael after school most days. They are really funny and helpful, and I catch the bus home with Reshwan.
So I went to school for 4 days (and to language school on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, which I will continue to do till August) and then it was off to Randers in Jutland for another Rotary get together. That Thursday I went to Kates after language school. We went out to dinner in Copenhagen, and then to the student bar,
but nothing seemed to be happening so we went home. I stayed the night at hers then we caught the train to Randers the next day.
Randers was really fun. All the exchange students - newbies and oldies - were there. There were 130 of us in total. The get together was in a school, and we all slept in classrooms. On the first night there was karaoke. I was very very tired so I only went down for a while. The rest of the time I spent drawing a mural on the black board in the room we slept in. It was pretty wild (not).
The next day we had activities, including a choir competition thing (our get together theme was music).
Then that night we had a party with a live band which was surprisingly good.
We came back from Rander on Sunday, and I returned to school on Monday.
On Tuesday, I went to school with Daniel and Marc. Their English teacher had asked them to invite me. It was pretty cool. I spent the day talking to a bunch of classes about Australia. The teacher asked me to come back next
My poor attempt at a bed
I forgot all of my sleeping gear. I didn't even have pj's. Well done Elisa. Friday.
On Wednesday Inge and Kim went to Austria to go skiing so Marc and Daniels grandparents stayed with us till Friday.
On Friday Marc and Daniel went to thier cousins house for the weekend. Kate and Adam (who came down from Jutland for the weekend) stayed over at my house on Friday and Saturday night. Friday night we spent watching mtv and laughing our heads off at stupid things.
We took Adam to Copenhagen for his first time on Saturday. We went shopping, cause none of us could really be bothered with the touristy and historical things. We're leaving it for another day.
We went home and watched the Mighty Boosh until Steff (who is an oldie from America, who also came to Copenhagen for the weekend) came over. We watched more Boosh with her, played a few stupid games (like truth or dare) and then... We pierced Kate's ear. So I know that my parents will probably dissaprove but it was pretty fun. We steralised the needle and everything and Steff has peirced her own and her friend's ears before so.... Yeah 😊
Then we got ready and went out! We met up
with lots of other oldies (a lot of them had come down to Copenhagen for the weekend, and then most of our Copenhagen oldies were there too), and went to the biggest nightclub in Scandinavia, Discotek IN. It's pretty great; absolutely huge with heaps of different rooms and dance floors and different music. We went home at about 3am, even though the club is open till 10am. We caught the night bus home.
This morning I was rudely awakened at 8:30. Kate kicked me in the back in her sleep, which was lovely. Still, it meant that I got up like a good host and went across to the bakery to get bread and milk for breakfast. The bakery was absolutely packed! There were at least 20 people lined up outtside the actual building. Inge and Kim had told me that Sunday was their busy day, but I didn't know they meant that busy!
The three of us spent most of the day relaxing in front of the tv and playing uno XD. It was fun.
So now you are completely up-to-date with what I have been doing! As I'm sure you can tell, it's been pretty
full on, and I'm using that as my excuse for being so slack with my blog.
Hope everyone's happy and healthy!
<3 😊
