After Chinese class, my friends and I decided to go on an adventure to the Summer Palace. The weather was absolutely gorgeous with very sunny and blue skies. The trip was quite a learning experience as we all had to communicate in so many different languages. It was very international group as there were people who spoke Korean, Thai, Filipino (Tagalog), English, Japanese, and course our common language of Chinese. Since for the most part we were all in the same level Chinese class, it was definitely a challenge having to communicate. One of the Korean girls understood a lot of Chinese so she would translate Chinese into Korean. Then my other Korean friend would translate from Korean into English. Many times throughout the trip. you could literally see the chain of communication. It was such a great learning experience!

The Summer Palace is about a twenty minute bike ride from Tsinghua University. It was built as a place for the emperors to escape the heat of the summer and is one of the most preserved imperial gardens. Longetivity Hill and the Kunming Lake make a majority of the Summer Palace. One of my Korean friends (李澈)used to work for a tour guide company and so he knew a lot about the history of the Summer Palace. I had my friend translate a lot of his "tour," which was quite interesting. I definitely will return to the Summer Palace once the weather is a bit warmer. We only saw a fraction of the place and I hope to go back and climb the hill. This place was one of the most relaxing environments and I can't wait to go back!

Enjoy the pictures of my trip to the Summer Palace!

Nice pictures, Kristina! By the way, just an FYI and just so your Filipino friends don't stop being your friends... it's "Tagalog," not "Tagalong." :P Haha, but of course, I say that with love. Anyway, hope everything is going well!
