Today I visited the Jesuits Missions in Paraguay (Trinidad and Jesus). I decided that it´s time for an adventure, so I made my own way there. I could´ve taken a tour, but the tour was too expensive for what I thought it would be worth (70 euros), considereing Paraguy is just across the river. Of course, I knew better, and my guidebook made it look so simple.
So off i went at 8am, took a public bus from Posadas across the river to Encarnacion, Paraguay. I have an EU passport which means I don´t need a visa, which made things simpler. At the immigration a gentleman next to me (who was very nice and spoke English) told me that I was crazy for travelling on my own. Nice.

So after the bridge, and the hopping on, off, on, off and on again for the immigration checks, I caught another bus to Trinidad. Simple enough.
The Trinidad missions didn´t impress me much, so I thought that the Jesus ones would be nicer since the guidebook raved about them, saying there are excellent tour guides who speak English, German and French. Excellent - I wanted to hear all the stories.
So after waiting ONE hour for the final bus to take me, I ended up taking a taxi with my very last amount of cash that I had.

The Jesuit Mission in Jesus was the biggest disappointment. I was utterly flabbergasted since a) of course they only had 1 tour guide, who of course only spoke Spanish; b) there weren´t even sign boards, not even in spanish to explain the buildings - nothing!
I don´t mean to sound ungreatful - if you´ve seen the ruins in Mexico, your standards would automatically be set way too high for this.
After the 3 hour trip to the ruins, I was there for a total of 20 minutes, and left.

With no money left in my pocket (by that I mean no Guaranis. I did have 100 pesos which no one could change), I was stranded. So I did what my mum told me never to do. I hitch-hiked to somewhere near Trinidad. The man was very nice, and I spent the whole time wondering how I could flee in case something happened.

Due to the disappointment of the Jesuit Missions in Paraguay, I decided to skip San Ignacio and head straight to Puerto Iguazu, so that I can be with the Iguazu Falls (one of the new 7 wonders of the world) for my birthday tomorrow.

Thought of the day: I love you, my life saving swiss army knife.
